Steph's in the Bar again, sprawled across a couch, reading.

It's a book on Arthurian History, and her eyes are a little glazed, but she's determined to get through it.

Don't ask why.

There is a prince coming in from outside, to get his waterskin refilled (the idea of free water from a bar is novel).

But JUST TODAY he had a conversation with Wells about Girls. About THAT GIRL. so he is determined to make himself as unattractive as possible! HE UNDERSTANDS NOW!

So shortly, there is a book plucked from her hand! AND THEN? The moment she looks up?

A BATH. An upturned STEIN OF WATER.

SPLASH.

And a fleeing Firebender.

Multiple exclamation marks and all.

She gives chase! Dripping wet and all. "GET BACK HERE. WHAT THE HELL."

People who take up all the couch are so selfish. They are a scourge on bar society! And they must be sat upon in order to bring this point home. Or at least, smiled at sweetly, because she looks sort of cute.

"Room for two?"

There's an empty chair just opposite. Goldy's favored chair actually. She's just being awkward in her little way.

"Always," Steph says, wriggling around so she's only taking up a little more than half the couch. "Hi! I totally haven't met you before, have I?"

"Totally not. No."

She upgrades her smile and settles in, wiggling a bit to get comfortable because, really, this is not where she likes to sit. Furniture standards can't always be met though, especially when there is a subtle point to be made.

"I'm Goldilocks. Or Goldy if you prefer."

"Steph," says Steph, tucking her feet under her a little more.

She's suitably chastened for the couch-theft.

"Are you Goldilocks like the story, for real?" Steph hasn't actually met any of the other Fables - but she knows of Snow White, so a Real True Goldilocks isn't out of the question.

"Like the story. For real," she parrots, a little amused by the phraseology. "You can touch if you like."

She grins.

"In my universe we call ourselves Fables. There are a few others here from the same place. The Earth stories... well, they have some inconsistencies, but, for the most part, and certainly in my case, the event happened."

"That's so awesome. Man, I love this bar sometimes. That pretty much rocks!"

Steph is easily impressed.

Well, she stopped paying attention to the book a while back. It's fair to say she might be watching the cat instead.

It's cute.

Nothing's stronger than the power of cute, if you're a teenage girl. Except maybe Batman, but you can't really put cute and Batman in the same sentence without brainmeats protesting loudly. So ...

"Hi, kitty." She wiggles her ingers at it.

It's a little bigger than in the icon, by now, but still not half-grown, and wildcats aren't that much bigger than domestic cats anyway.

He yowls at her.

A tired looking man wanders by, glancing over.

"Good book."

He is carrying quite a few books himself, which he sets down at a table as he sets himself down. A wait rat follows with coffee and food. Waffles and sausage and eggs and hashbrowns apparently are Bar's prescription for Bruce. he eyes it and sighs.

"Bruce!"

Tired, but not actually crying. Which is definitely a big relief, and a big change from the last time she saw him. She sits up, ditching the book for the potential conversation.

"How are you?"

He smiles faintly, eying the food, but seizes on conversation as a way to avoid consumption! Except coffee. Coffee is inhaled. Coffee is life!

Bruce smiles a bit when he lowers the mug.

"I'm okay. Working on stuff. Been busy. How are you... Stephanie, right?"

"That's me! I'm good. Totally bored with reading, though. This stuff takes forever to get through. What are you working on?"

"I like reading. And that isnt a bad book, if a little dry."

He smiles faintly again.

"Possible cures. They usually dont work, but it doesnt stop me from trying."

There is a fox in the bar. A little, lithe one, with grey-tinged fur and golden eyes.

This is fox is ninja-ing across the bar. Sneaking under table legs, peering around booths, until he comes to Steph.

Steph and book.

Steph now has a fox staring at the cover, head cocked as if he is trying to read.

Foxes can't read! Silly fox, doesn't it know that?

Still, any distraction's a good distraction. She puts the book down and eyes the fox, curiously.

"Hello, you."

He can so! He's just...mildly dyslexic. Yes.

Well, you have a mother with schizophrenia and see how far formal learning gets you.

The fox tilts his head, and then nudges the book with his nose.

"...you want the book? But you're a fox," Steph points out, with a curious glance. "Well, I guess this is Milliways."

She puts it down on the floor, closed, and then watches with interest.

The little fox yips, and then leans over to read it (and if he puts his paw on the cover, so be it). It takes a while for him to read, but then he growls. Picking the book up in his jaws, the fox starts to march over to the fireplace.
