Butters told me that playing the guitar would be good therapy for my hand. Unfortunately, didn't bring the guitar along with me. So, I figured I'd ask the bar if she could loan me one. She did - she even included a copy of the book Butters had given me. "Thanks."

So now, I'm sitting in a corner, in a comfortable chair, playing the guitar... badly.

So far, Thomas is the only person who's ever been able to tolerate the sound longer than a couple minutes without asking me to stop. And I think he's just being polite.

"Brother. Half-brother."

Please not another person who questions my sexual choices because I live with a man.

He would never. He seems to have shared a one-room apartment with his brother for some time.

"Ah, okay. Ready to kill him yet?"

"Yes... and no."

I shrug.

"He is my brother after all."

"Yeah. Always forgive them in the end."

He grins.

"Something like that."

I'm tempted to sit the guitar aside and just talk.

"You have a brother?"

"Yeah. My little brother Charlie."

I think. Have I met him?

"Ah. Name sounds familiar."

"A lot of people here know him. Plays the guitar and sings a lot."

"I've probably seen him. I think Bob mentioned him before."

Yeah - because explaining that is gonna be fun.

"Another friend of yours from home?"

"Yeah. Sort of."

Here goes.

"He's an air spirit who lives in a skull."

Liam's been coming to Milliways for a year and a half, but that still merits a blink.

"...well, that's a new one on me."

"You never met Bob? I could've sworn he'd jawed everyone's ear off."

"Don't think I did, no."

"Lucky you."

Oh no, love Bob to death for magic things and stuff. He just talks a lot.

"Because of the talking?"

Amused.

"More like constant talking. Bob never shuts up."

"How'd you end up with his company?"

"Took him from my old teacher who - didn't need him any more."

Not a lie, but not the entire truth either. I know what I did and that I had to do it to save my own life and that the Council still watches me like a hawk.

Liam won't pry overmuch.

"Fair enough."

I shrug.

"He's the wizard equivalent of a computer."

"Sounds useful to have around."

"Usually, yeah. Most of the time."
