Steph's sitting in the rafters. Not, for once, out of any particular desire to Lurk; things are going well, lately. Just out of a vague feeling that if she doesn't spend some time up high in the shadows she'll go crazy.

Besides, she likes the rafters. They're quiet and warm and comfy - well, comfy compared to rooftops, at least - and you can see almost everything going on below.

You can take the girl out of Gotham...

"That's great. I'm beginning to think I should just give up my GP at home and use the Bar instead. With what Lilly's paying, I can probably afford it." Knox catches the cheerful and returns it.

"Ray told me the same thing. I take it you know her, as well as Mikey?"

"I know Mel heaps better than Mikey. She's my sister," Steph explains. "You can't miss her, she's got blue and pink hair and carries a great big stabby thing."

"Your sister? She's from Gotham too? That would explain the axe, and the hair.

"I've seen her around. Just never talked to her." That hair is offputting to Knox. Colored hair, to a man from 1989 Gotham, spells either punk or Joker.

"Not from Gotham," Steph says. "She's from a place called Haddyn. I think it's, like, three hundred years in my future, so even further in yours."

Steph doesn't even realise that sisters from hundreds of years apart and different worlds might be a strange concept to some, any more. It's been more than a year since she arrived here.

"She's a slayer, so the axe."

"Wait. You;re not being literal here, right? Either that, or your father was a time traveller." Knox tries to makes sense of it, and graps at the logical, if only because he can't grasp at being chronological.

"Slayers I know about. I'm pretty friendly with Buffy."

Steph giggles and arches back into a handstand, absently. "Yeah, Mel's from Buffy's world, in the future. We're not blood sisters, obviously. Just - family anyway, y'know? Mel's better family than any of my real ones ever were."

"I get it." He certainly gets not being close to the family you were born into. "Think she'd be okay with being interviewed about her boyfriend? Last thing I waan do is tick off a Slayer. With an axe."

"Well, you can only ask," Steph points out brightly, grinning up at him upside-down. "She won't get ticked off unless you're an ass about it or if you don't back off when she says no, or something. Mel's pretty cool."

"I plan to be on my best behavior. After all, Lilly made me promise." Knox has no idea that if he were an ass, it could get back to Lilly through Mel.

"Oh, good. Lilly's cool like that."

She's not telling!

"I should warn you, I'm not sure if she'll be real happy to talk about it."

"Well, Ill just lay out my cards. Tell her I'm doing a profile - a friendly profile - about Mikey, so that people know what to expect. And I'll be real careful to say that if she'd rather not talk, that's fine.

"And then ask her to get word to Mikey that I want to interview him directly. Worse that happens is nothing." He hopes.
