"---he keeps this up and I'll sue," Sara snaps, talking on her cell phone. "Can't you--thanks."

Closing the phone, she gets a drink and goes to a booth, sighing.

Moments like these make her wish she could conjure up a Bohemian filmmaker. But he's busy and she's not going to bother him.

"One of those days huh?"

One curly haired doc nearby, a large broken chopstick on the table in front of him.

"Something like that, yeah." She glances over and raises an eyebrow at the sight of the chopstick.

Guppy smiles a little.

"Apparently Staff Nurse Phillips has decided that three or four weeks is enough to reinstate certain jabs about my sexuality. This was removed from a patient this morning. Apparently he described me as gorgeous." he shrugs with a resigned sigh.

"I should possibly point out that she has taken the trouble to make me a new, clean one and stuck it in my pocket for a joke. Now, for two hundred points, I challenge you to tell me where this was stuck and why."

It is a standard wooden chopstick, bent at one end and with a red pen mark about an inch around the middle.

"I don't have enough context clues in which to make a guess but I'd like to have a private conversation with that nurse," Sara says flatly.

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy goes red.

"Um, I didn't mean there." he fidgets and fiddles with his hair. "It was a genuine challenge. The answer was through the foot, and he was pretending to be a vampire whilst his niece pretended to be a slayer. Seems he trod on it by mistake."

He sees her expression and sighs again.

"Yeah, I know. I've never quite understood... well... do I look gay?"

"Guppy, I don't know what gay is supposed to look like." Well, other than fabulous, of course.

"You're a young, intelligent, handsome man if I may say so. Other than that..." she shrugs.

[guppy_sandhu]

He goes more red.

"Thanks. Um... tea?"

[lvpd_sidle]

"I'm American. Make mine a coffee." She smirks.

"Relax, Guppy. I don't think gay is actually a look unless you're looking at someone who is really happy."

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy pours her a coffee and passes it over.

"Well yes, but... it's sort of difficult... I mean... how am I ever going to pull if people think I'm gay?"

[lvpd_sidle]

"Point out that your sexual orientation is a private matter, whatever it might be. Also point out that it has no bearings on your skills as a doctor, and you don't appreciate being put under that sort of scrutiny. Worse comes to worst, go to your supervisor and file a harassment complaint against that nurse."

[guppy_sandhu]

Guppy winces slightly and nods, feeling only a little like a confused adolescent in front of the school guidance counsellor.

"Since we've been down this road before, and I evidently dealt inadequately with it the first time, would you like to talk about your day? You seemed pretty hacked off when I first saw you."

[lvpd_sidle]

"The assistant lab director's being a dick and trying to avoid granting me vacation time, even though he's giving me legal grounds to sue the lab," she says, rolling her eyes.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Well that's a charming way to thank you for all your hard work. What's his problem?"

There are, at least, other bohemians she's close to (if decidedly not in the same way).
"What happened?"

[lvpd_sidle]

"Ecklie's trying to deny my vacation time. He doesn't have a legal leg to stand on. I'm getting pissed."

Clear enough, right?

"Only getting there?"
Crystal.

[lvpd_sidle]

"He keeps it up and I'll be beyond pissed," she says flatly. "But the threat of a suit should get the point across. I've also contacted the director above him."

She sighs. "How are you?"

[the_antiangst]

"Not bad. Caught Mark before he left - sounds like they're gonna have fun with that filming."

[lvpd_sidle]

"Yeah, so did I." She grins. "I look forward to us surprising him."

[the_antiangst]

Angel grins. "Oh, that'll be fun. Besides, knowing the bar, he'll be in and out during shooting a few times."

[lvpd_sidle]

"I'm sure he will. I just want to get this vacation time approved so I can go to Santa Fe without keeping an eye on my watch."

[the_antiangst]

"Good luck, honey."

[lvpd_sidle]

"The director likes me more than Ecklie. And he's also more concerned with lab image than Ecklie. A few more legal threats disguised as arm-twisting should work." She chuckles. "Kind of wish I could have Joanne helping me, though."

[the_antiangst]

"If she's in Santa Fe when we get there, ask her. May not be much help for this case, given the timing, but who knows if you'll need the future reference?"

[lvpd_sidle]

"True enough. I'll keep that in mind when we go."
