Chloe decided, after the conversation she had with Angela the other day, she ought to at least make an effort to be more visible.

So here she is, visibly eating and drinking.

Bugging is highly recommended.

Well Jack's always up for bugging Chloe, and he appears beside her table with a cup of coffee in his hand.

"Hey, Chloe. How're you?"

"Fine. I haven't been downstairs in a week, except for yesterday, so I thought I'd spend a few hours watching people."

She taps a notebook that she's using for a coaster for her soda.

"Nobody's going to believe me, but, I don't know, I may as well document something."

"Well it could always make the next science fiction bestseller," he says with a small smile.

"Andrew's department, not mine." Chloe smiles quickly before squinting around the room.

"Have you seen Angela today?"

"No, and I was hoping to talk to her," he says, his expression darkening as he looks around the room. "Have you seen her recently?"

"Yesterday, outside." She purposely decides to not tell Jack the exact details of her conversation with Angela. Not that Jack couldn't probably figure it out for himself.

"I think you should hear her out, Jack."

Boy is Chloe thirsty all of a sudden.

"I did; she wasn't shy about expressing her opinion the other night," he says, darkly.

"Yes, but she realizes now she acted and reacted without thinking. She was upset that she upset you. She just felt like she had to get out of here, away from all the crap that's been going on lately."

"And somehow going to the dark ages was going to help?"

"You were never a teenage girl with severe depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. We're lucky she hasn't tried to kill herself."

She might not have tried, but he knows she's thought about it.

He very nearly mentions that take out the "teenage girl" part and she'd actually be pretty close to what he had been before, but catches himself and instead snaps, "Oh, thanks, Chloe. That really helps."

Chloe rolls her eyes. "I'm not trying to help you Jack, I'm trying to get Angela back to a place where, next time she's given the opportunity to do something like this, she'll decide to tell someone before doing something stupid like running off with a strange boy who, coincidentally, is probably King Arthur's child. I really don't care how this affects you. It isn't about you. It's about Angela and her not having the sense-"

Chloe huffs.

"I told her to tell me before she goes off on these stupid adventures. So that I could keep you guys aware. It isn't like I wouldn't come tell you what I know."

"And if she thinks that you're going to tell me, do you really think she's going to tell you, then? Before this I would have thought that she'd come to tell me something like this, only she didn't because she knew I wouldn't be happy with it. If she's decided to do something she knows her parents or I wouldn't like, and if she thinks you'll tell us, how can you be sure she'll tell you in the first place?"

"She doesn't think I'll tell you." Chloe is fairly confident of that at this point, regardless of whether or not Jack is.

"I really don't see you yelling at her as a good deterent either. I would get to know Melou. Show Angela that you want to trust her."

Jack's expression darkens further at the mention of Melou's name. "I've gotten to know Melou about as much as I want to, considering he seems to consider Angela something that belongs to him, like a piece of property. And the problem is that I did trust her, before she decided to pull this stunt."

"Did you hear the word I said after 'you' and before 'to'? I said 'that you WANT to trust her' not that you DO trust her. Because it's pretty crystal clear at the moment to Angela that you don't trust her as far as you can throw an elephant. And I really don't doubt that she's hooked up with someone like that, she's got some issues spilling over from her real life that can only adversely affect her decisions here."

"Well that part is pretty obvious. It's just that I've given her enough space--probably too much, considering--I would have expected that she wouldn't do something like this."
