Hannah has been out running, once all the way around the lake, rain or no rain.

Now she's settled into an armchair wringing water out of her hair, and thinking about getting coffee.

Cora looks up from the book after some minutes, and catches sight of Hannah.

"Is it raining outside?" She asks, smiling.

"Just a little bit. Not too much. It's okay, though, I like running in the rain."

"Hannah. Griffith."

"I'm Cora, it's good to meet you. I didn't realize it rained outside, here--unless you mean you were running back home?"

"No, out around the lake. I don't think it rains a whole lot, but it seems to be raining today. Unless this is just a very convincing illusion, which is probably possible here what with the magic and all. And it's nice to meet you, Cora."

"Yes, the magic is a bit strange, isn't it? We haven't any, in Chipstede--the town I live in, in Narnia," Cora adds belatedly.

"We don't have any, either. Not really. I'm from Neptune, California," she says.

And waits for Cora to ask if she knows Lilly.

Lilly who? :P

"Is that in the united states--the ones in America, on Earth?" Cora asks, guessing from the clothes and general accent.

Best answer ever!

"Yeah, on the west coast. By the ocean. Literally, in the case of Neptune. Where's Narnia?"

New Zealand, right?

"Oh," Cora says, in awe, "that must be amazing."

Narnia cut itself off from the sea centuries before her time.

"I don't know the name of our world," she confesses, a bit embarassed. "We're neighbors of Calormen and Archenland, though I don't know if you've heard of them."

[OOC: ...I totally did not forget to check for a tag. >.> Sorry!]

"It's pretty awesome, yeah. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else."

Even when she has to.

"And I haven't heard of Calormen and Archenland, but I think we're talking different worlds here, so that's really a surprise."

"True," she replies with a smile. "I'm actually surprised how many people here have heard of Narnia--apparently some of our nursery tales are around Earth, too. The rulers of our Golden Age came from London to Narnia, and must have brought the tales of what they did with them when they went back."

"It's sorta vaguely not entirely unfamiliar maybe," she offers. "Kinda. But it could be that I heard someone here talking about it, too. So, like, what do you do there?"

"I'm the schoolmistress for a school of boys, in Chipstede," she answers promptly with a small smile, "and I help my grandparents with housekeeping. What do you do in your...Neptune?" Cora pronounces the name carefully.

It's a question she's had to get used to, in Milliways. In Chipstede--and to a certain extent Beruna--everyone knows everyone's occupation.

"I'm a student. High school, which is like for when you're fourteen to about eighteen. Before college. Right now I go to school on the other side of the country, but I'm kinda hoping that'll change."

"And I run."

Cora nods as she listens to Hannah's explanation.

"Being away from home is...difficult. Is college the same thing as a university?"

If so, she's officially in love with Earth. Not only are there many colleges that you don't have to be rich to attend, but women go there.

Possibly she hasn't heard the cons (of Earth, not universities).

There are cons of universities, too.

"Yeah. Colleges are, um, usually smaller than universities, I think, but you do the same thing there, basically, if you're a student. I don't know which one I'll go to, but I have a couple years to figure it out."

True!

"I'd think either would be a fine thing, but very few people go to a university in my world, see, and...well, I'm a teacher, so."

She might be a bit biased?

"So you approve of education? Did you go?"

"Yes, I very much approve of it," she says with an amused grin. "But I went to a school for young women, and most girls finished their education at sixteen."

Cora shrugs. "I was the senior math instructor's assistant there for a few years before I started teaching."

"Really? I like math. It's either right or wrong. And science, especially chemisty, even if I do break an alarming number of beakers."
