The clock is really whizzing forward today. After the large sacrifice last night, it's got a lot of ground to make up if it's going to reach the 10 by the time the quake is happening.

The note asking for sacrifices is still up, as is the note asking for signups for the ground assault.

And beside the clock, Urza himself still sits. Planeswalkers do not actually require sleep, or food, or any of those mortal trappings, so he hasn't moved, and has no plans to until the final possible moment.

"Truly, I know not. Perhaps they will be released back to their owners. Or perhaps they will discharge in a single explosive blast as a final failsafe."

"Explosive blast doesn't sound good," Khayman said. "How about making a wall of sand bags before unlocking that thing?"

Urza nods.

"I will heavily shield the area before I attempt to disarm it."

"Perhaps with a few of those useless people inside so the blast has something to blast?" Khayman wondered.

He chuckles.

"I would not wish the Phyrexians onto this place, not even for the brief moment of their destruction."

"They must be especially inimical enemies," Khayman said.

Without emotion: "They are the reason for my brother's death."

"Personal enemies as well, then," Khayman nodded, much more serious.

"Yes. My vendetta against them began as a personal one, only expanding as I learned their ultimate plans."

"So this place wins by surviving," Khayman nodded, "and you win by having many mages and vampires on your side when you face your enemies again."

Urza shrugs.

"I doubt there will be many to follow me after this, knowing the danger that could befall them and those they care about."

"Many of them live here, can't even leave if the want to - they call that Bound," Khayman explained. "They'll have no choice but help defend their home."

"Yes, I have heard of the concept of being Bound. I have had no end of concerns over what should befall those individuals should we fail."

"So have they," Khayman said. "That will make them fight harder."

Urza nods sadly.

"Yes, I suppose it will."

His thoughts are quite thoroughly elsewhere, though.

"I'll be nearby if you have use for a vampire," Khayman saidthen retreated into the middle distance, and the shadows.

Sometimes, a man (or vampire, actually) just had to think by himself for a bit. Like a entury or so. Unfortunately, they didn't have that long now.
