Sands was on the floor on one side of a portal, and now he’s on the floor on the other, hands still poised to tug hopelessly at his now-free leg. Slowly he blinks around at the familiar grounds, and then at his leg, and then back at the grounds again.

“Ah. Milliways.”

And he sags down onto the grass.

"Mal. He's too messed up, even I can see that. And you'll just kill yourself trying. Stop."

He tightens his arms.

She does. Mostly because the world is spinning and she's tired and knows that she probably shouldn't even have tried.

Turns a weary, blood-streaked face up to Parker. Beseechingly, "Help him?"

Parker lets go of her slowly, and goes to check on Sands. Most of the blood is old and it looks like Mal fixed him pretty well. The bone is whole.

When he touches Sands, the guy groans and Parker tightens his lips.

"I'm going to take him upstairs," he says.

"...mmkay."

Mal scrubs a hand over her face, kneeling next to Sands and absently running her fingers through his hair. It needs to be washed.

"I'll follow."

Carefully, and awkwardly, he picks him up, nearly a fireman's carry. It doesn't really work like the ladies in victorian romance novels so he settles on not dropping Sands in the stairway.

He kicks at the door and ends up having to prop Sands against the door to get at his key.

Mal follows, slow and tired and not really focusing on anything. She catches Parker's shoulder just beofre he opens the door, and squeezes it lightly.

"Thanks."

"Of course," Parker says. "It's not a problem."

He pushes open the door and puts Sands on the bed, not caring if the sheets got bloody.

"Yeah."

Mal follows, sits on the edge of the bed and glances at him.

"Sands? You awake?"

[identity profile] not-one-drop.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Dinner first."

It's a tired joke and she's almost asleep on her feet anyway, one hand ghosting over his cheekbones, his neck, reassuring herself that he's alive.

She glances back towards Parker, "Wake me in two hours. Can fix what's left, just. Not right now."

Blinks several times, the world sliding in and out of focus.

Parker sits in the only chair he has in the room and watches until he's sure they're asleep. Then he takes all of his weaponry with him and walks out.
