"I think he will. We'll build up to real blades, archery, swordplay....hand-to-hand...I have a chart."

Faith knows from the training thing.

"Very good. It would not be productive, or wise, if he became over-dependent on lightsabers."

"Exactly. Or the Force, given that...well, people have been known to lose their powers here, temporarily or otherwise. It happened to me once."

"There are training techniques, meant to prepare a Jedi to the possibility of being barred from touching the Force."

Faith nods. "Mara mentioned that. I run all his training by her first, in case she disapproves of something. Everything's been fine so far."

Again, Mace simply nods, reminding himself its not his place to comment on mara, keeping his expression neutral. "And why did you seek a lightsaber?"

"Oh, well, I thought if I could get a handle on how to use one, I might be able to teach Ben better."

"Then you would need a trainer as well..." It might be some kind of offer.

"I would. Though....I haven't told you what I am yet, have I?"

"No, you have not."

"I was born human," Faith says, quietly. "But when I was sixteen....well, the short version is that I was magically altered. A demon was bound to me so that I would be able to hunt and kill demons on my world. One of the many side effects is an innate talent with weapons. I'll need to learn the basics, but after that I should do fine on my own."

"I see..." He nods, then...

"We're trained blindfold. Taught not to rely on our senses, to feel things as much as see or hear them. It's part of what I'm hoping to help train Ben with."

Mace nods, and quotes... "Do not believe what your eyes are telling you: all they show is limitation. Look with your understanding."

Faith nods. "Exactly. Also, you know, if your eyes get torn out, it sucks a little less if you can still feel your way around."

That, strangely, makes the so-serious Jedi chuckle... "True, very much..."

"Always a danger in my line of work. Or yours, I assume."

"Defending civilization is a dangerous job. Or was."

"No kidding."

Faith understands.

But she does understand the frustration of being out of it?

She was Bound for five months. She gets that.

"How you plan to go around learning?"

"Well, I can't go many places. Antar and here, that's about it really." Faith shrugs. "And mostly there."

"Perhaps Mara Jade herself can teach you the basics." Teach, ha! But still Mace says nothing.
