Sharpe is in the bar, Matt's letter securely in his pocket, working a Security shift and hoping to see a few people he needs to talk to.

You're welcome to come and chat whether you're one of them or not, though.

"All right; just making plans to move back to L.A. and figured I could use a break. What have you been up to lately?" he asks, taking a seat.

"Getting ready to go back to Yorkshire. What's taking you back to LA?"

"Well I've got my identity back, my family is there...and I'm moving in with Chris, so..." It's hard for him to hide a smile at that, even if there are other things he can't help but think about whenever moving in with Chris comes to mind.

Sharpe smiles. "I wish you luck with it, then. Giving up the place by the lake for good?"

"Yeah, it's too far away to keep it; we'd never get out there. There's an area kind of like where I've been living not too far from L.A. where I'm going to look for a place, so we can get out of the city. You're going back to deliver that letter you mentioned?"

"I am", he says with a nod. "First time back since Matt died."

"How long do you expect to be gone? It must be quite a trip."

"Might be a few weeks, all told. Longer if it doesn't all go smoothly."

"I'm hoping you mean of the late arrival, bad roads sort of not going smoothly," Jack says with a wry smile.

"Aye, that's what I'm hoping for. Horse going lame, not enough boats, that kind of thing."

"Well hopefully that's all that will get in the way. I'm sure Lucille won't be happy with anything delaying you. Who're you planning on seeing when you get back, exactly? Family, I'm sure."

"I've got no family left", Sharpe says quietly. "Except her and the kids. I'll see an old friend or two... and Matt's friends."

Jack winces slightly; he'd forgotten. "Men you served with, or that you knew before you joined?"

"Before I joined, some of them. I'll stop to see Dan's wife, while I'm there."

Jack nods, asking after a moment, "How're you feeling about going back there? It must be a while since you were there last."

"Bit over a year", Sharpe agrees. "And it'll be... it's a long way. But I promised I'd be back."

"So you must have a lot to do to get ready for the trip, both for the journey and to take care of the farm." Considering the way people from his time whined about the hassle of flying somewhere, he has to wonder what they'd think of travelling in Sharpe's time.

Sharpe nods.

"First thing's to arrange someone to stay with Lucille, and help look after the lad. The maid'll do it if she can, but just in case."
