"Oh ho!" John laughed. "However did you figure it out? Of course...I could be Sebaccean."

"I wouldn't hold that against you. Just probably give you directions to the infirmary. They'd give you something that'd clear that right up."

He grinned. "Don't let Aeryn hear you say that."

Erin. That sounds like a girl's name.

"Is she cute?"

"I think she'd kill me if I called her cute. Hot is more the word."

Mike grins broadly.

"Hot is good. I like hot. Hot is the new cute."

John grinned in agreement. "That it is. She's a soldier too. Makes for interesting times."

"Hot warrior women really are where it's at."

Mike smiles foldly, remembering Mel.

"I miss mine."

"I just got mine back." He frowned. "I'm sorry, man."

"Me too. Stupid destiny."

He say with far less conviction than one would expect.

"Wanna see a picture?"

He frowned at the destiny part. "Sure."

Mike takes a polaroid out from the back of his belt.
The woman looks as if she's putting up with the man who stands next to her in the image. Almost like she's really just wishing he'd put the blasted camera away.

"That's Mel. She's a Slayer."

He grinned. "She is hot. Nice. A Slayer, huh? Wassat?"

"Mystical inherited thing. One girl every generation gets superpowers to fight vampires and demons and things that go bump in the night. Mel's the one from her time."

"...hot." John raised his eyebrows. "That's...really cool."

And his brain is screaming Buffy the Vampire Slayer over and over again at him.

"Yeah...until the part where she has to go away."

Again he shrugs.

"So tell me the one about the one that came back. Sounds like a happier ending."

"Yeah...until the part where I have to go away." John frowned.

It's Mike's turn to frown.

"What ever you do, don't break the understanding."

"I'm going to die." John said flatly. "Apparently. Does that break the understanding?"

"Nope. Unless, she doesn't know that you're going to die when you go back. That might do it. I mean, it all depends on the terms of the understanding.

Mel knows that I'm going to die before she does, and I know that her job will kill her. We tried not to let that get in the way of things."

"She knows. She's from my future. She...there's something else I think she knows. But she's not telling me." John frowned again.

"Might be for the best. It's not good to muck around with time. Time just kind of likes to muck around with you.

Then you get tiny green guys with bad Brooklyn accents telling you what you've done wrong. It's a bad scene, trust me on this."

time dies.

But he grinned at the last statement. "I'll take your word for it."

"It's for the best. In fact, the world would be a far better place if everyone just listened to me and did what I told them to do. There would be nothing but pretty ladies in slinky dresses EVERYWHERE!

If that's not paradise, then I don't know what is."

John laughed. "That? Is paradise. As long as there are no wormholes invovled."
