"And I'm guessing you're aware that some of our patrons aren't human?"

He puts the kettle on. "And you have to be careful of different cultures too, making sure you explain what you're doing before you do it and so on. For example I had a patient who didn't realise I was using the visual part of the scanner, and got very upset because her religion didn't allow pictures of living things."

Pretty much a 'no questions about legal matters' sort of place," he admits. "We get a lot of newcomers from other countries. 'Don't make assumptions' is like the Third Commandment'."

"Usually when I'm not in Holby, I'm on duty here. Even though it's usually quiet, it pays to have someone around for the occasional magic war or epidemic. What did you say your specialty is?"

"Nobody's ever actually asked me for my credentials." he admits. "Not that I've given them reason to, and I at least have my ID on me."
He indicates a card clipped to his belt. 'Dr Gurpreet Sandhu, SHO, Holby ED' And flips it over to reveal his more home-made looking one. 'Dr Guppy Sandhu, SHO, Milliways Bar'.
"However." he continues. "When I first started here we had Barry Allen in charge of the medical roster, who knew me pretty well before I started working here. He's not here any more though, so if you can, you need to make yourself known to Simon. At very least send him a note, he tends to operate at precisely the opposite time of day to me."
He passes the kettle over to Cliff with the tea and coffee pots.
"Particularly given your field. Quite a few women have given birth here so it'll be very good to have someone more used to the process than me."
