(no subject)

Michelle didn't mean to come into the bar, which is probably why she's got a pint of ice cream in one hand and a copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting" clutched to her chest.

The first few chapters of the book are marked with post-it note tabs and her place is kept with a yellow highlighter.

She's wearing Freudian Slippers (a gift from Tony a while ago), cotton pajama pants, a CTU academy shirt, and a terry cloth robe.

At least she's not barefoot.

She goes to the Bar and grabs a large mlikshake and a plate of strawberries.

She was entering the kitchen anyway.

A slightly more stern tone of voice from Lyrae. Her tone was motherly but betrayed a great deal of doubt as to a proper answer.

"Have you had a proper Delving? It is imperative for a woman carrying a child to have them regularly so that health can be assessed and any problems corrected."

Lyrae frowned slightly. She was not certain what constituted proper pre-natal care in Lady Michelle's world, but she was certain that it would frighten her.

"I was meaning have you seen Lady Kim, or someone with similar powers who could perform a proper examination with the Power."

Lyrae thought for a moment and responded blandly.

"I am unsure of her abilities in those areas."

Lyrae nodded calmly, and gestured at the seat across from her.

"I can certainly do so. Sit down, and have a cup of tea. It is easier if you are warm."

A faint glow burned around Lyrae as Michelle's robe warmed interlaced with tiny flows of fire.

"Much warmer than the ambient temperature. I have been caring for expectant mothers and delivering children for nearly four centuries. Relax."

Lyrae peered at her for a moment before offering her hot tea. In a few minutes, she would be warm enough. She remembers how difficult it was for her raising her son after her husband abandoned her.

"Remember that raising a child alone compounds the difficulty, and so you will have great tribulations, and there are grim consequences for failure."

A pause, and a sip of her tea.

"Take heart however, others have done it before."

Lyrae commented with the voice of experience.

"It is who matters."

Lyrae nodded calmly.

"You do."

A pause, and a glance at Michelle.

"You should be warm enough now."

Unruly patients were hardly a matter for Lyrae.

"Hold out your hand."

Lyrae held her hand gently and the golden fire around her burned more brightly as she wove an intricate flow. The humming feeling would no doubt unnerve Lady Michelle, but she would do well enough.

After a moment, she nodded calmly, and the flows disappeared as did the power from around Lyrae.

"Perfectly healthy. No anomalies at this stage at all in the child."

Lyrae nodded calmly, and sipped her tea.

"You are quite welcome. Please, do visit at another time when you are farther along."
