Domino had eventually gone home, and time had once again skipped forward while she was there, leading her through an emotional attachment of the kind she vowed never to have, an explosion, and a miracle.

That said, it was a slightly older, and far wiser, bottle-blonde bounty hunter that entered the bar, blinking when she realized it wasn't where she'd been going, very nearly dropping the fishbowl in her hand with surprise.

Then she smiled, moving quietly to a booth and setting the bowl down carefully.

(she's quite botherable, but the mun is at work, so replies may be patchy to nonexistant.)

"So, what is it that a bounty hunter does? We don't have them back home."

She shrugged once more, running her fingers over the side of the fishbowl again, "Well, when someone skips out on a bail, or something like that, we go in to collect them."

"Oh. Is it dangerous?" It involves guns, that usually means danger.

"I can be. Most of the time it is, but not always. We're always surprised when something goes better than we'd been thinking it would."

"Oh yeah. I know that feeling. Like when you go on patrol and don't run into anyone."

Another smile, nodding, "Something like that, yeah."

Because, well, sometimes they ran and hid with their gang, and sometimes they just ran and hid under their girlfriend's bed.

"So, is the fish a tool of the trade or something? Or is that just you?"

She laughed softly, shaking her head, "Just me so far as I know. Ed doesn't ... didn't understand it." She realized then that she'd still been using 'we' even though it was now just her.

Makita catches the shift. "Old partner?"

She nodded, "Ed was my boss, but, well, he was more of a parner than that, he and Choco."

She hadn't been going to mention Choco, but ornery thing that he was, he popped out anyway.

"You're not with them anymore?" Makita tries to imagine what it would be like to fight on her own. It's not a very happy idea.

She stopped herself for a moment, just watching the fish, "They're dead."

Makita's eyes dull a bit, "Did you get the guys who did it?" Because back home people pretty much die because someone shoots them.

That was about what had happened, really.

She nodded, "Alf blew them up." An almost smile, "He made everything right, just like he said he would."

That gets a firm nod, "Good." Then Makita frowns, "So, is Alf a partner now?" Because Makita doesn't really approve of having to work without backup.

She shook her head, "Blew himself up to do it." She shrugged, "He was our driver. Right now I'm trying to decide whether I should take over for Ed, find myself a new partner, or just start fresh."

Makita tilts her head, "Having someone to watch your back is a good thing."

She smiled slightly at that, nodding, "Oh I know that well enough, and it would be difficult for me to give this up, but maybe I survived it for a reason, maybe there's something else I'm supposed to do."

"Any idea what that might be?" Makita has a hard time imagining a life not full of fighting.

She laughed then, shaking her head, "Not a clue." Which was, all in all, why it was such a difficult descision.

Makita grins at the laugh, "When you were little what did you dream you would do when you grew up?" Cause maybe she could do that.

She laughed softly, shaking her head, "I did that before I became a bounty hunter. I was a model, and it was more dangerous than the bounty hunting is."

"A model? How is that dangerous?" Makita seems intrigued by the idea.

"Those girls hate everyone, and especially each other." She shook her head, "And they're strung out on something more often than not."

A shrug then, "And they're more likely to attack without warning than any bounty I've been after."

"And I bet you're not allowed to shoot them, huh?"
