Hiro has -- made himself comfortable. Sure, by doing so he fell asleep in a boothe, but-- still. The guy's had a long (confusing, squee-filled) day. Still, he woke up to the bustling of bar and began to stumble about, realizing:

He has only the vaguest idea of where he is.
He has no idea how to leave, because he can't seem to find a door out that doesn't lead to SCOTLAND, or it's equivalent.
He needs a shower.
He's famished and this place has the best waffles on God's green earth-- or, well, the multiverse.

He's decided to pursue problem 4 -- one and two will sort themselves out but waffles wait for no one. No one.

Though, he does wish Ando were here. It's probably make communication easier. His english drastically improved... what with six months with his prettier teacher... but... Miscommunication is bound to happen. Ando would fix that. Ando's English is EXCELLENT. (Because of the American porn!)

For now? Waffles.

"Waffus!"

That's Hiro; this is a girl he, amazingly, doesn't recognize. No kid shows, sorry! Well, okay, some-- but not hers.

"I'm Hiro! Hiro Nakamura!"

"Waffus?" Katara is looking around for the waitrat now. EXCUSE ME. IN NEED OF DELICIOUS EATS, PLZ.

She grins when he introduces himself - how do you not grin when a cheery Japanese man with an adorably round face happily says hello? "Hi, Hiro! I'm Katara."

"Nice to meet you!" His english is stilted, but his manner is friendly. "Are YOU new?"

He is sparkly, shiny new.

Hello, waitrat! Hopefully your english is also stilted because Katara just ordered 'waffus.'

"Nice to meet you, too! I've been here for a few months-- well, in and out." She grins and brings her chair a little closer. He's so nice! "You're new, though, aren't you?"

The waitrat can do the math.

"...yes. Very new." He nods his head. "Just got here yesterday."

"Oh, wow! You..." she trails off, frowning a little in concern, "must be really, really confused, huh?"

He shrugs. "BAr. End of universe. Bound. Door. Vacation?" He's -- taking it in as much stride as he can. "Could be worse. Could be Seige Perilous!"

He means the Marvel version.

Not that Katara can tell.

Nope, can't tell at all. And thus assumes it's something awful from his world.

Smiling a little, though not as brightly as she was, Katara puts her hands together on her knees and leans toward him. "You're taking it a lot better than I did. At least that's something!"

And then? She has waffles. Waffus. Something. Either way, she is very happily eating.

"These are great!"

"You don't like it?" The bar, not the waffles. Only supervillains woudl not like waffles, so-- you know, Katara's not a supervillain.

(Zuko likes waffles, but only with a lot of sugary topping. Goddamn Wells for having a baker for a wife.)

(No one's talking about Zuko - Zuko is not a delicious waffle nor a nice person.)

"It's nice," Katara says, past waffle and butter and syrup, "but it's not home. Usually it's not so bad - the door comes back to me pretty quickly, but... sometimes I worry."

What if someday she comes here, and it just doesn't come back?

"Time stoppu!" he says. "It goes pause. Like-- DVD!"

Not that Katara knows what one of those is.

...No, but he is darling. She has to grin. "I know, I just get nervous about it. Sometimes important stuff is going on! But everything's been fine each time I went out and came back."

"We have to save the world," Hiro says, with the utmost seriousness.

...congratulations, Katara. You've met Aang, twenty years later. Yet again, someone who is terminally cute must save the world!

An Aang that's actually asian, as according to the Avatarverse!

Blinking once, Katara smiles again. "Is that why you're Hero?"

"Hiro!" he says, and laughs. "Hero -- English word. Hiro -- Japanese name. Sound the same, though." He pats down his jacket and then pulls out pen and paper and spells HERO and HIRO. "Hero, and name! Or..." And then he writes his name in kanji, to follow up.

Pulling her chair over when he offers the paper (those waffles are long gone), Katara frowns when presented the English letters. The kanji gets a blink, though, something like recognition, and she looks up to grin. "Oh, okay. But it works, doesn't it? If you're saving the world and all?"

"....well, we're trying to."

Trying to! Very good word. Him and Ando. Sort of like, Aang and Sokka! ... without Katara to be Hopeful McHappypants.

But everybody needs a Hopeful McHappypants!

And it's not like Aang isn't Cheerful Optimismson.

"Then you're a hero," Hopeful McH-- Katara assures him.

Hiro smiles, a little flattered. "Thank you."

"Sure!" Katara replies, grinning a little. "It's the least I could do - you showed me waffus!"

"They're the best," he says with a broad smile; and he really does think so. A world without waffus-- that'd be a CRIME.
