(no subject)

Nathan was talking on a cellphone, and opened the Front Door. He was too distracted with important phone calls, and trying to take care of things to pay attention.

"Look, do whatever you have to keep this out of the press. Not one word gets printed while I get this straightened out, and make sure Peter's name isn't mentioned at all." He ordered into the phone as he strode in. And then heard a beep alerting him that the signal was lost.

"Aw hell, not today." Nathan started to turn to leave, but the door was already gone. "Dammit! Not today!" He closed his fist like he wanted to hit the now smooth wall, and then decided to go for a walk out back to cool off. The phone was hastily stowed away in a coat pocket while he walked through the bar toward the Back Door.

Feel free to catch him before he goes out back, or run into him outside.

"I shouldn't do that if I were you, sir," says a dark-haired Englishwoman with a low voice. "Not tonight."

"Because tonight's the first night of the full moon, and there's werewolves out there," Annie says. "They usually don't come much out of the forest, but better safe than sorry."

She raises her voice a little. "My husband is one of them."

"That's why we've got a farm; he heads out onto the property a few hours before sundown and stays away from people until it passes," Annie says. "This is really not a good time to be outside, sir, I can promise you that."

Annie sighs. "As you wish," she says, and settles back in her chair. Not her place to keep people out of trouble. Hopefully Harry'd be able to pull it off.

There is a white-clad man sitting on a rock outside. He appears to be watching the woods with a patient expectation.

He turns slightly as Nathan emerges through the Back Door. "This is not the safest time to be out here," he says. "If you must, I recommend you stay close to the stables or the smithy."

He turns around completely and fixes Nathan with a stare. You know the look a teacher gives you when you're being singularly stupid? Multiply that by about one hundred.

"I see you have been told of them," he says. "I presume you either think you have been lied to or that you are capable of fighting them off if necessary."

His eyes narrow.

"Unless you want your 'cooling off' to be rather permanent, you would be wise to pay attention to the warnings people give you."

He turns back to watch the woods. "The threat is real. If you stumble across it, I will attempt to assist you. But realize the risk you take."

The and you'll have no one to blame but yourself if your head gets ripped off is implied.

"Perhaps you can," the Ranger allows. "But why put yourself in that position needlessly?"

Spero relents a little and gives him a wan smile.

"Just stay away from the forest," he says. "If he tries to come out of there, I'll stop him."

"Water...probably not," he says. "He might use a drinking site as an ambush, but he would be looking for prey if he is in a dangerous mood. Water would muddle his tracking. As for heights, I am not sure."
