There's only so long even the most cheerful teenage girl can keep up a positive attitude about being trapped in a bar at the end of the Universe.

She's paced around her room, done exercises, kata, tai-chi and has tried and tried to be productive in writing, but nothing's coming from her pen and she's just annoyed.

And depressed.

So there's Angela, sitting at a booth with a book she's not reading, slumped over the table, just staring off into space.

She's come to the end of her rope, and now she just wants to go home.

Sayid, interestingly enough, has a book on tai-chi. Which he isn't reading either.

He happens to be in her line of vision.

Without picking her head up from the table, she says, "Tai chi is a really good form of exercise."

Not that she was asked. But Angela's helpful like that.

Sayid's an approachable sort. Most of the time.

"It is. I generally prefer something a bit less structured, though, and I don't often have time to work out."

"S'all I have here is time." She picks up her head from the table and pushes her hair back from her face. "It's getting kind of annoying, though."

"Oh?"

The Bar has been kind enough to let Sayid come and go pretty much as he pleases. He mostly just comes in for the tea and the library.

"Why is that?"

"I'm stuck here. Bound. I can't leave yet."

She gives him a crooked smile. "It's been pretty good for a while, but now I'm kind of ready to go home."

"I wasn't aware the Bar did that," he says mildly, glancing at the door.

"Yeah, every so often she does. Either she makes the door disappear, and for some people it just doesn't open. So. Bound. It's not terribly fun."

"I presume time must stop outside the door for those who are Bound?" he muses. "I should think it would be a relief for most people, although I can understand your homesickness."

He shrugs.

"It does, yeah. At least for me. I've been here a few months, so it's getting kind of old. Getting tired of winter."

She grins. "I'm Angela, by the way."

Sayid would probably get antsy if stuck in the Bar for months, but given what he's got to go back to...

"I see your point." He offers a hand. "Sayid."

She shakes his hand. "It's good to meet you, Sayid. Where are you from, originally?"

He smiles wryly. "That's a bit of a complicated question. I grew up in Iraq. Tikrit." He doesn't elaborate further.

"And yourself?"

"I'm from Los Angeles--well, near there. Valencia. It's a nice place. Right now it's just before Halloween there."

It's going to be weird, going from Valentine's Day to Halloween.

"Ah..."

Sayid nods.

"Yes, I have a friend who lives in the Los Angeles area. I was...on my way to visit her recently."

It's kind of difficult to mention his attempted vacation to LA without mentioning the plane crash, but Sayid's making a valiant effort.

"I hear it's quite lovely."

"It is. Mostly the beaches are great. I spend a lot of time on the beach."

Not that you'd know it, the way even the light tan she had has faded.

"As do I." Sayid smiles. "I like to think I'm something of a connoisseur of beaches."

"Have you traveled to a lot of them?"

Angela hasn't really been very many places, though she might go to Hawaii this year for surf school.
