Ah so, here is the recovering alcoholic hippie, in the bar, at a booth, with real food. Yeah, totally. He's eating it very, very slowly, but he does have what appears to be a ham sandwich. And tea.
And a really big, really old book, compliments ofNearly Wristless Rod Roderick Usher.
He is also playing with a spoon, twirling it in one hand lazily.
Please annoy.

She has a real soft spot for that song.

It's really her only completely good memory of her father.

"Oh," he says, almost whispering. "Oh, I see."
His own good memories of his parents are few and far between. He always liked his dad, though.
"Mine... he used to sing me old Irish folk songs. My mom'd join him, sometimes, 'cuz I'm all Irish on both sides. Grandparents all from Ireland." His voice breaks and melds now again into accent -- Irish, but flawlessly so. "Me father used te sing te her... 'tis how they met... Her name was Kathleen Brennan. He'd sing te her..."
Miniver pauses, then sings, very quietly,
I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen
Across the ocean wild and wide
To where your heart has ever been
Since first you were my bonnie bride.
The roses all have left your cheek.
I've watched them fade away and die
Your voice is sad when e'er you speak
And tears bedim your loving eyes.
Oh! I will take you back, Kathleen
To where your heart will feel no pain
And when the fields are fresh and green
I'II take you to your home again!

"That's very pretty."

There's a brief pause.
"I married a trucker? Why the hell did you let me marry a trucker, Miniver?"
In other words (as obvious by the big grin and sparkling eyes), she'd love that.

Beat.
"He bought me tulips, okay? He went to an actual floral shop and got me my favorite flowers. I was blown away by the thoughtfulness."

There are big grins in this booth.
"I always wanted a little brother. I'm about 25 minutes older, by the way."

"Y'know? This place rules," April declares, cuddling her brother (yay, brother!) tightly. "Because... we never would've found each other otherwise." He probably would've been dead before she was out of diapers.

He squeezes her TIGHT. "Yeah. I'm glad I did find you, Sissy. You and Draco and Paul and Tom... this is the best place in all the worlds there are."

April twines her arms around his neck and just... cuddles.
"What took you so long?" she whispers.

Miniver laughs into her hair. "Lost my way, I guess."

Yeah, I think they were born.
"Mmm. You always did have a terrible sense of direction."
no subject
"Yeah. Shit. It took me 24 years to figure out how to find where people go when they die!"
no subject
"I think we might be slightly insane, d'ya know that?"

Beat.
"Wait, wait, is this Roderick Usher from The House of Usher?"
