Daemon Rising, part 4a

[In this installment, a virus approaches Mainframe with her new helpers, a boy plays catch with his dad, seduction is attempted and cut short, and plans are put into motion. Speaking of which, here comes one of those plans now!]

Little Matrix enters the bar with two bots, a dog, and a look of determination. He looks around the bar, mentally reviewing as he does so the tasks he has been charged with. Wait here until someone comes to fetch me. Until then, stay with someone on the safelist. And find Programmers. Someone who can fix the cure so it's more compatible, and find out why it didn't work when Bob tried to...

Oh no! Bob! I forgot to tell Dot...

Matrix freezes, then wheels around and charges back past his escort toward the Door.

It's locked.

"The owner is as mysterious as they are cryptic," Danny said, wiggling his fingers again. Then he looked to the door. "Okay, guys, I'm going to need to go get Tuck, since he might be able to help with the virus thing--and the whole war thing in general. He LIVES for computers, so he should be able to help a world inside one.

"Dani, I'm going to trust that you're at least as responsible as me, so make sure the both of you stay out of trouble until I get back, and if you need help, go to whoever's on Enzo's list that you can see, okay? I'll be back with Tucker as soon as I can."

"You got it, Danny." Dani hops off of her barstool and snaps off a salute.

Enzo mimics her salute. He's got a pretty good one for a kid his age.

"Stay out of trouble, okay?" And with that, he went off through the door to find Tucker.

Stay out of trouble? Sure, no problem...


...probably.

Dani hops back up on her barstool. "So, who else is on the list besides Danny?" she asks. Doesn't help to be prepared, right?

Doesn't hurt, the mun thinks.

"Foxtrot X-ray and Suzi Darley, and Ray Stantz and Whistler Emory have question marks next to them," he recites from memory. It's not very long, after all. "She made the list when she first got here, and she's been kinda busy," he adds (with great understatement). "I'm sure there're more safe people, but that's the list."

This mun blames it on semantics and lack of sleep.

"I know Dr. Stantz," Dani says "but I haven't met any of those other people." Yet. Though, should it be considered a good thing that she hasn't encountered Foxtrot yet?

"I haven't met Whistler, but Suzi's nice. She's got a puppy!" She's also got a phobia of kids, though, the mun notes, so perhaps she should be avoided.

"And Foxtrot's a riot, you've got to meet him!" Enzo chuckles. "I'm really surprised Dot put him on the list. She blames him whenever I ask her a question she doesn't want to answer. Fox's why she had to tell me how babies are initialized." He blushes slightly.

While the mun cracks up, Dani only looks at Enzo quizically. Being a clone herself, she has no idea where babies come from either. Let's hope either Jazz or Sam gets the job of telling her, and not Danny.

"Okay." She nods. "Is there anyone else you know here that could probably be on the list?"

Enzo considers this. "Not sure. Maybe Tommy Oliver? Dot introduced me to him. We had a mud fight."

"Okay." She nods, mentally adding the name to the list. She sips idely at her milkshake, trying to make it last. Danny and Tucker might be a while.
