Happy 10nd birthday, Enzo!

Enzo Matrix has been charging back and forth between the Bar and the back door all morning, fetching bowls and platters for the adults to arrange on the tables out back.

He looks a bit different today, in a couple of respects. Firstly, he's almost two inches taller and, whereas before he looked about-nine-or-ten, he's now clearly about-ten-or-eleven. Secondly, he's got a new outfit...

Now, finally, it's all ready! Enzo pelts back into the barroom, bellows "PARTY TIME!!" and heads back outside.

"It's okay," says the car, closing the door properly. "Hold onto that thought. The guy who did this? Calls himself 'Dark Lord Ivan von Stabbington, the Third'."

Giggles finally dying down, he spots Bob some distance away and has an Inspiration. "GLITCH!" he bellows. "CAR!"

In the usual course of things, that command would have turned Glitch into a gearshift and auto-start for Bob's 262.

In this case, however...

"ENZO!" bellows the bright blue Bel Air convertible standing where Bob was a moment ago.

"Now you've got someone to hang out with," Enzo informs Dr. Stantz with a wicked grin.

The car makes a noise that sounds suspiciously like a snort of suppressed laughter. "I didn't know you could do that," he says. "Bob, are you guys okay?"

"We're fine," the Bel Air grumbles, rolling over to the Caddy hearse. "This was an unexpected side effect of Glitch waking up again. Kind of a long story."

"Oh, okay," the hearse says. "How long does this configuration last, anyway?"

There's a pause, during which the Bel Air gives the impression of looking around furtively.

"Actually?" It says quietly. "I can switch back whenever I want. I just figure I'd better humor Enzo. It is his birthday, after all."

"That makes sense," the hearse says approvingly in a similarly low tone. "Hey, do you get any other configuration options?"

"Yep. I've been trying 'em out. I have all of Glitch's old functions now. Most of them don't require a full shapechange, though."

"Very cool. I'll admit, I've been through a shapechange before, but that was Garion's work and it was done with my consent. Not something like this, or like what you guys do."

"Oh, right, Garion can transform other people, can't he? I forgot about that."

The Bel Air is silent for a moment, lost in thought.

"Hm... just how much of a shapechange can he do?"

"He was showing me what it's like to be a wolf," says the hearse. "I've seen him change himself into a wolf, a rabbit, and a couple of different kinds of bird."

"And he turned Whistler into a Gen. But can he do other things? Like, say... turn a sprite into a human? For a little while?"

"It's possible," the hearse says thoughtfully. "I know he turned a guy into a radish once, and then turned him back. I don't know if he's ever worked with data, but... Out of curiosity, why do you ask?"

"Dot and I have been thinking about taking a vacation in User-space," replies the Bel Air. "We've been trying to find somebody willing to turn us human, but haven't had much luck yet... d'you think Garion would be willing to give it a shot?"

"Huh. Well, if anybody would, it would be him," says the hearse. "I think he has bartending duty tonight at Happy Hour. Wanna try and ask then?"

"Unfortunately, he told me once that what one sorcerer does, another one can't undo. You have to think exactly the same way as the person who made the original change in order to undo whatever it was they did, or the end result is a catastrophic mess," the hearse says.

Srsly, it's canon for Garion's kind of sorceror. Fifth book, first series- "you know very well that what one of us does, another cannot undo".

Enzo kind of wandered off during that - attention span - but he heard that. "I wanna ride!" he cries, diving in over Bob's door.
