Happy 10nd birthday, Enzo!

Enzo Matrix has been charging back and forth between the Bar and the back door all morning, fetching bowls and platters for the adults to arrange on the tables out back.

He looks a bit different today, in a couple of respects. Firstly, he's almost two inches taller and, whereas before he looked about-nine-or-ten, he's now clearly about-ten-or-eleven. Secondly, he's got a new outfit...

Now, finally, it's all ready! Enzo pelts back into the barroom, bellows "PARTY TIME!!" and heads back outside.

Oh, yes. It's a while since he's been through this particular bit of explanation. "He's a media sprite. He got assigned to entertain Bob when Bob came to Mainframe." Shrug. "He's his roommate."

Mike is a TV. Mike is a sprite. So... "Mike is a TV that's...alive?"

"And really annoying, most of the time. He used to babysit me."

She winces in sympathy. "Was it weird having a TV for a baby-sitter?"

"Only 'cause he's weird. But he's just a sprite."

"Okay." Dani nods. "Think he'll show us his footage when I go to Mainframe for the wedding?"

"Duh. Anyone who actually asks him to show them something is, like, his new best friend. He'll prob'ly throw in a whole bunch of commercials, though."

He brightens. "Oh! Guess what? Dad's back! Again!"

Dani makes a face. Ew, commercials.

"Really? Enzo, that's great! When did that happen?" And, more importantly, how?

"Two cycles ago! Remember how Hex messed with my icon?"

"Yeah." She also remembers that she almost touched the thing.

The mun doesn't think anything would've happened, but it's probably just as well they didn't find out.

"Well, I touched Dad when he was just Nibbles, and the code she put in my icon shot down my arm and into Dad and he could think and talk again! He's only one null, though, it didn't do a body. But Phong was talking about giving him an exoskeleton thing."

"Cool!" Dani smiles. "So, it's like Hex kinda gave you a birthday present then."

"Uh-huh! Even if she meant it as a goodbye present." He looks around. "I wonder where she is? She must be around, she's Bound now..."

"Yeah; I think I've seen her around the Bar." Dani looks around warily, looking to see if Hex is at the party somewhere. "Haven't actually stopped and talked to her, though."

A red poof of viral energy erupted in the air.

"Hello Enzo," she said leaning down and placing an empty left hand on his shoulder, " You rang?"

Her right hand was placed deliberately behind her back.

"Hex!!" Enzo leans forward to hug her. "I got your present. Thank you so much."

"I don't follow," she said still holding her arm behind her back.

She glanced back, still there.

"You mean you already got this," she pulled a yellow box with great green ribbons all over it.

"No, I meant Dad! With my icon! It worked!"

Dani, to her credit, didn't jump out of her clothes when Hex suddenly appeared.

She did get a couple inches off the ground, though.

"Hi, Hex." Dani is polite, smiling; she doesn't want to offend a virus.

Hex looked around to the new face.

"Oh your father?" she asked, "Yes, how is he?"

Hex was still smiling.

"Hello."

"He's fine! I mean, he's still a null and all, but he can think an' talk and his voice even sounds better than the first time you did it. It was kinda bubbly then. Why's it clearer now?"

"I don't know," said Hex, "But I think it could be that the other nulls were causing interference."

Hex shrugged.

"Open your box, Enzo," she said, "I swear it's nice."

*insert evil grin here*

Enzo takes the box, a bit nervously (but that's mostly habit), and... spends several nanos picking through incomprehensible loops of ribbon.
