Val bounces into the bar, normal. Perfectly normal for once. Well, other than the huge conspiratorial smile on her face. She's up to something. Perhaps it's just the bounciness of the season, perhaps there's more to it than that. She puts her coat on a coat tree that seems to have appeared by the bar, and shakes the snow out of her hair. Picking up her tray and a mug of tea from behind the bar, she plops down on a stool and sings to herself.

Last Christmas

Warren appears to be in too good a mood to be terrified of a girl clearly up to something, and he waves and wishes her a:

"I believe you mean Happy Hanukkah..."

Mostly just to be difficult.

Val chuckles a bit, turning. "Hey, Warren. Is Hannukkah this early in... what year are we in now?" She wrinkles her nose. "I never know these things. So, how have you been?"

"I don't actually know. I was telling someone earlier that, to me? It's, like, May/June. But it goes by the Hebrew calendar, and is on a different date each-..."

He frowns, then just as quickly smiles.

"I give up. I don't care what year it is, but I declare it Hanukkah now. Right now. First night."

Val chuckles brightly, putting her mug (which advertizes some long-forgotten diner, more than likely not even on Earth) on the bar, and grinning at him. "So, tell me about what you do for Hannukkah."

"Do you mean, just me, personally? It's, you know, a lightin' candles, speakin' Hebrew, exchangin' small gifts with the fam, and eating too many latkes good time.

And, you know, uh, recalling the miracle and all. It's a thing," he recounts happily.

Val smiles, a twinkle in her eyes. "I wonder if we have a menorah around here somewhere." She walks behind the bar, and shuffles in the Lost Property box. She, to her great surprises, comes up with a simple silver menorah. 'Well, what do you know. Here's one." She looks at it oddly. "Who the frell loses a menorah in Milliways?"

Elaine spies Val and goes up to her. "Hello, Val. And how are you this night?"

Val smiles back at her. "Good evening, Elaine. I am doing quite well, actually. How are you this night?"

"I am well. It is the holiday season, and I have always loved this time of year. Will your brothers be in the bar for Christmas?"

"As far as I know, both of my brothers are bound, and the rest of my adopted family will be here, yes." She smiles brightly. "I love this season too. There's so much happiness that people can and do give others, and so much possibility."

"Yes. I do not see Spike or Beth here, but I do consider them family, as well. It is nice to think up presents when you have little but the work of your hands to give them."

Val's eyes twinkle. "Well, I think that I'm going to give people things I've made for Christmas. That is, if I can get someone to go back to their world and get me some of the things I need. I'm not Bound myself, but people won't let me go back after what happened last time."

Echo waves at the girl at the bar, still bouncing in place, still grinning.

Val waves back to her, grin matching hers. "Hey, there. Anything I can get for you tonight?"

"...tonight..." Echo tilts her head, then points to the soda machine. Yeah, still bouncing.

Val walks over to the soda machine and comes back with a coke for the girl. "Here you go. So, what's your name?"

"...name..." With great skill, even though she's still bouncing, Echo produces the piece of paper that was given to her and hands it to Val. Also with great skill, she opens the can and guzzles half of it in one gulp. While still bouncing.

Val's eyes twinkle, and she rummages in her apron, coming up with a green fountain pen, and a notebook, turning to a new page, and handing the pen and notebook to the girl. "So, Miss Echo, what has made you so bouncy tonight?"

She smiles and waves to Val. "Hello, Valentine. How are you?"

Val grins back, waving her mug (which advertizes some old-and-forgotten diner, probably not even on Earth) at Mina. "I'm doing wonderfully, actually."

"Good ... This is a relief." She smiles.

Val chuckles, smiling. "Yeah, I'm doing a lot better. I guess I just had to get a lot of frustration out." She takes a long sip of her tea. "How are you doing?"

She laughs softly. "Better, too." She sighs, shaking her head with a wry smile. "When I make mistakes, I make big ones ..."
