Yo. Mercutio is sitting crosslegged by the fireplace, staring into the fire. One hand is tossing and catching a dagger - he doesn't seem to even be looking at it.

He's humming very quietly, a Veronan children's song.

"I've been hiding."

He grins.

"From a demon."

It's a flat-out lie, but whatevs.

Giovanni blinks and looks at him carefully.

"Really?"

"Indeed. A big black one. With purple eyes."

He beams.

"And why is it after you?"

He suspects he's being teased, but he doesn't mind too much.

"Because I killed her son."

"Impressive", Giovanni says, leaning back and relaxing more. "How?"

"Um. Halls and carousing were involved. And fierce warriors."

"Did you challenge him to a duel?"

"A demon? To a duel? Art mad?"

"It would be the last thing he expected", Giovanni points out.

"And thus, for me, predictable, as that is what heroes tend to do. No, I stabbed him in the back."

"Ah, of course. While he was drunk, or just when he wasn't looking?"

Mercutio shakes his head.

"Asleep. It's my favoured method of killing."

His smile shows his sharp canines.

"And what was your reason for killing this demon, if I need to ask?"

He's still enjoying this frankly ridiculous conversation too much to drop it yet.

"He was talking to me."

"In his sleep?"

"No. In my head. Telling me to do evil things."

Giovanni nods sagely. "But how did you know it was him, and not some other?"

"I am very clever."

He stretches.

"Far cleverer than any in this bar."

And yawns.

"Life must be so dull" Giovanni says, sympathetically. "Perhaps you should meet my sister. You may find you have a lot in common."
