It is rather fortunate that Tristran and Yvaine have not been turned into animals - who knows what sort of strange ruckus the two of them might have caused as animals with very little inhibitions.
Besides, Tristran already knows exactly how it feels to be an animal, and he can't say he enjoys it very much. He's rather glad that chapter in his life is gone and done.
There are two glasses of water on their table, and Tristran has an arm draped around the star. The couple have been out of the bar, doing what they do best (which, basically, is nothing productive) and are back tonight for even more nothingness and are very much botherable if you are so inclined to meet their acquaintance.

"I have never met a star before. This is quite a pleasure."
no subject
Let it not be said that she's not easily flattered.
"And, trust me, I am hardly a pleasure," she slants her gaze up at Tristran.
no subject
"I wouldn't say that, Yvaine," he tells her chidingly.
no subject
"And what would you say then?"
There was something sweet and almost teasing to her tone.
no subject
She brightens again, wickedly pleased, flashing a wide, almost grateful grin at the girl across from her.
"Yes," her voice is nothing short of innocently inquisitive. "What would you say?"
no subject
"Ah - well." He turns to Yvaine, giving her a rather silly smile. "First of all, I'd say you are a pleasure to meet -" Perhaps not when she had been throwing things at him, but once they passed that point, it was quite fine... "- and you are certainly a pleasure to know. In fact, I am very glad and very grateful to be able to spend even the briefest moment in your company -"
And then he pauses, because suddenly there is the distinct feeling of self-consciousness. He could go on, but the rest will likely be along the same sappy lines.

(Which only caused the smallest ache.)
"I suppose you shall have to keep him then, for that was well turned."
no subject
She lets out a sigh - slow, grudging, and long-suffering.
"I do suppose that it's necessary after all that effort."
no subject
"I - well, I get this way sometimes," he admits. "Yvaine can attest to that."
He can go on forever, simply expressing the finest traits of a lady - his lady - in poetical form. He'd likely sprout sonnets if he could.
no subject
"Other lads would do well to walk in your shoes, at least so far as that regard goes."
no subject
She tilts her head, smiles pleasantly.
"You seem the sort of lady that is plenty worthy of fine words."
no subject
"Yvaine is right. Surely there is someone you know who might share the same sentiments for you that I do for Yvaine."
It comes out a little more as a question.
no subject
"I am engaged," she said.
Quiet simply.
In a fashion where it might be almost too easy, especially for those who do know loves touch so fresh and true, to note that she does not glow when she says it.
And that it does seem a fitting answer for either statement.
no subject
She can never quite figure the rules of such things.
"My congratulations then," she murmurs instead and though the tone is bright her eyes still know, fingers tightening around his.
"It is certainly lovely."
no subject
"It is," Tristran says politely, "and my congratulations as well."
A part of him can't help but think, would Victoria have been like this had the two of them been engaged to each other?

It is marvelously the only subject in which she doesn't look to read people. And in which she has stopped trying to read herself in.
It is.
It is that simple. And that inevitable.
"And the two of you? Are you--?" It was the slightest question turn, and nor even the most graceful, but it was away from that momentary subject and that was better to her

The star colors very abruptly, edges of her glittering brightly and cheeks heating.
"Well, I wouldn't - I wouldn't precisely," swallowing really shouldn't be this difficult. "Precisely say -"
no subject
"N-no, not - I mean, it isn't - yet - it's -"

It doesn't do much good, to be completely honest.
"None needed."

He gives Marian a weak smile.
"That's all right."
no subject
"Well, as much fun as this has been, I think that it is time for me to find my bed and rest for the evening."
no subject
A nod, smiling slightly.
"It was a pleasure meeting you."
no subject
Tristran nods as well, then bows his head. "It has most certainly been a pleasure, Lady Marian. We hope to talk to you again soon."
no subject
With a slightly regal nod, she wandered away and into the stairwell which would lead to her bedroom and a peaceful nights rest.
