You know those people who only appear when you least want them? They're gone for ages and then wham-bam back again?

Dworkin is sipping wine, sitting at the Observation Window, watching the destruction outside.

There are a few.

"...Shadow?" Johnny hasn't met any Amberites offhand.

"Universe," groping for the word that Johnny would use.

"Ah, besides Earth? I'm honestly not sure."

"Rats never know the names of their own mazes," sounding as though he doesn't really comprehend why someone might take offence to that. It's true, isn't it?

John frowned at that, "I'm not a rat." Or if he is a rat, he instinctive can find holes through the maze.

"Thus the lack of fur."

Egads! He's right!

"Among other things... I'm John Smith."

Not sure about offering his hand to shake to the strange man.

"But you are in a maze, even if you can see a few corners ahead."

The fact that Dworkin the psychic equivalent of 'invisible' may register at any point.

John immediately gave him a look, and kept his hands at his sides.

"...Is that mean you can see all of the corners?"

"Or that I built the maze."

One of the two.

John stared at him some more.

"You're saying you're God?"

"I'm Dworkin."

"Nice to meet you." Still not sure what to think of him.

Crooked teeth, crooked grin, crooked eyes, crooked spine. Grimy fingernails and an elegant wine glass.

"Maybe mazes don't work like you understand."

"Maybe. Usually can see one extra corner at a time, that's all."

"Maybe."

He laughs.

John really didn't understand that at all.

"I should probably go. Bye."
