It kind of comes as no surprise that Clark and Chloe wander in to Milliways after a lunch on the town. After saving the world (okay, not the world but Bart and the Metropolis area contingent of super powered individuals) and putting up with a five minute rant from Lois about why men suck, there really is no other logical choice.

There's no Lex Luthor to fight here. No Lois to be bitched at by. Absolute peace and relaxation and the best coffee in the universe.

So as Clark goes to grab a booth, Chloe goes to get two lattes. Yeah. They totally deserve today.

Chloe smiles innocently.

She knows exactly what Clark is saying. It doesn't mean she has to agree to it.

"Come on, Clark. I thought you wanted us to meet."

"I did," he says to Chloe and then turns to Eirene. "I do, I mean. Really. I just," was hoping Chloe would behave herself, what a fool he was, "wasn't really expecting the conversation to be about, well. Me."

"Then I apologize for any embarassment I may have just caused." She looks appropriately contrite and turns to Chloe after a moment.

"You may ask me anything you would like, and I will answer as honestly as I can."

Eirene is ignored for a moment.

"Clark," Chloe replies, raising an eyebrow. "Two people have just met. They have one thing in common. At least we're not battling for dominance like you and Riley do whenever you're around me."

It's at this point that Clark wishes one of his powers was being able to disappear, because that's about what he'd like to do right now.

"We do not."

Eirene leans back, armed with ~~Clark's~~ her latte and just watches the banter. It's like a spectator sport.

Chloe's look remains skeptical.

"Then what would you call it?"

"I was just making sure he was good enough for you." By the way, the jury's still out on that. "We're totally friends now." HAH.

Yep. Just sipping the coffee and watching. Totally not grinning behind her drink.

"Clark: you are not my father."

Beat.

"Or is the purpose of this meeting for me to return the favor then? Make sure Eirene is good enough for you?"

(Which, despite hints of jealousy that are no where nearly as bad as Clark's, Eirene, in Chloe's opinion, probably is.)

"You're my friends, why wouldn't I want you to meet each other?" That wasn't sidestepped as well as he would have liked. "I figured you'd get along even without having me in common."

Eirene takes the opportunity to choke on her coffee, because she wasn't expecting to be sized up. And verbally at that! She'll just sink down a little further and hope she isn't blushing as badly as she suspects she is.

"What, because we're short, blonde and like you?"

Good save!

Chloe gives Clark a look.

Eirene has summed it up nicely.

OH GOD MAKE IT STOP.

"Well, there is that, but you're both smart and funny and," Chloe is given a very brief look here, "nice. And we've discovered you both like coffee, so who knows what else you'll have in common" he finishes lamely.

While the narration desperately tries to stop a gigglefit, Eirene tilts her head and considers this before glancing towards Chloe.

"I like coloring outside the lines," she announces. Maybe the other blonde does too?

Typing such a thread in a library like area, this narration has decided, is probably a bad idea. Chloe, however, is too busy shaking her head at Clark to care.

"I'm not really much of a colorer. But I guess if I had a choice, it would be outside the lines," she admits. Only boring people color inside the lines. "Clark's totally an inside the line person."

Ah, conversation shifts.

He eyes both of them. "The lines are there for a reason." So there isn't, you know, chaos. "But somehow I'm not surprised you throw colouring caution to the wind. True rebels, the both of you."

Chaos can be fun at certain times of the year. Midsummer, for instance. "The lines are there to be ignored," Eirene beams up at him, apparently recovered from her bout of embarassment.

And now it's Chloe's turn again. "What sort of music do you like? I've been concentrating on anti-war songs from the sixties and the seventies, and Kelt music from the British Isles."

Been concentrating on? Okay, that's an interesting way to put it.

"I'm not really picky. Music's not exactly my forte."

She's usually to busy with work or keeping up with Clark to pay attention.

"They're guidelines," Clark explains patiently. "So you know what the picture is supposed to be."

Then he nods. "Yeah, Chloe's what you'd call a classic workaholic. She needs to stop and have fun almost as much as I do sometimes."

Everyone knows about the guidelines. "Well, of course. But that doesn't mean you can't color what's outside them too."

Beat.

"Game of tag works wonders for people who work too hard."

"I'm also not exactly what you call athletic," Chloe responds. "That's kinda more Clark's thing, too."
