Gil hasn't done this for a very long while and picks up the chalk with an indrawn breath. He wouldn't be doing it now except today is special, isn't it?

He consults his notepad and begins to write:

Dear Patrons of Milliways,

In honour of the day the kitchen staff is pleased to present a special St Patrick's Day Menu:

Irish Cheddar and Stout Fondue

Beef and Guinness Pie

Baked Cabbage with Bacon

and finally

Chocolate Guinness Goodness

...in addition to our usual choices.

We hope you enjoy it.

He draws a smiley faun to finish it off then puts the chalk back on the ledge.

He's tried the Chocolate Guinness Goodness. He had it for lunch.

"Okay - let's see ..." Gil runs his hand over the bar and one of the portions of Irish Cheddar and Stout Fondue he prepared earlier pops up - perfect and fresh and steaming thanks to the wonders of Millitime and the good will of the Landlord.

There is a dish of fondue and triangles of lightly toasted bread and a knife and spoon wrapped in a napkin. Also there is a glass filled with dark, near black, chocolate mousse with a layer of creamy white on top. This has a very long spoon with it.

"Shall I help you carry it to your table?" Gil asks. "Or you can eat it here at the Bar."

"Oooh...I'll eat them at a table, thank you very much sir!"

That trick with the Bar -never- gets old.

"I'm not a sir, I'm a Gil," Gil says and offers his hand. "Gil Whimple - I'm a cook. And you are?"

"Tyler Marlocke, mortal human student of metahuman affairs." Tyler reaches over the bar to shake properly. "I call everyone larger than me 'sir' or ma'am until I know their names properly."

Gil shakes his hand with a smile. "That's very sensible," he says, "because, between you and me," he lowers his voice, "there are some quite grand people here and it's a good idea to be polite until you find out whether they are able to cope with being treated like a regular person. Some," he added, "need to be revered and really it's no trouble, is it?"

Tyler nods, smiling slyly, as he whispers back "Gods and heroes, and other things too strange to put names too."

"Which I'm kind of used to."

Compared to home, this place is relatively sane and calm.

Gil smiles and bobs his little horns. "That's good," he says. "Because we can be very scary if you're not used to odd things. Here, you take the plate with the toast and fondue and I'll bring your dessert. First, though, would you like a drink to go with it?"

"Milk or orange juice would be fine, please and thank you."

"I think milk would go better with this," Gil says and gets a nice cold glass full, then picks up the dessert and steps out from behind the bar, little hooves clicking on the floor. "Where's your table then?" he asks.

"Over there, the one with the stack of journals and comic books." Tyler says helpfully picking up the plate and walking along side the faun.

"Ooh comic books," Gil says, heading for the table. He puts the glass down first and wipes the surface of the table with a cloth from his apron pocket before setting the dessert down as well.

"I hope you enjoy your dinner," he said, "and happy St Patricks Day."
