Toby is currently wishing he'd never gone on rotation.

He's currently post mortum-ing his day over and over again in his mind. So much guilt. If he could turn back time... he'd just have to watch himself being as stupid again.

Charlie's been watching this man's apparent playback of memory--from the outside at least, watching one regret a moment is a familiar sight when you've done it yourself. And, as he does have an inkling on how to stall the feelings of guilt he can see on Toby's face, he leans over and gives him a friendly smile.

"Buy you a drink?" Alcohol solves all. it is truth.

"Yes please. Thanks."

"Charlie. What's your pleasure?" The way he's smiling could turn that into an invitation, but really he's just offering to help him numb himself a bit.

Charlie buys him a beer, as offered. "Bad day, then?"

"Thanks." he sips the beer.

"Yeah, first day in a new part of the job, boss hates me, followed the advice of a know-it-all colleague who on this occasion was wrong and nearly killed someone."

"And you got blamed for it?" Charlie is sympathetic! And sipping a tumbler of gin.

"Well, yeah, it was my fault."

"But it wasn't your idea." Charlie is also fuzzy on these sorts of morality issues, when something can be blamed on someone else, why not blame it on them?

"But if I'd trusted my own instincts she'd have been fine."

"And isn't she fine now? You said she'd almost died, which goes to follow she's not then dead," he points out easily.

"Well, yeah. But I'm going to get fired if I pull another stunt like that."

"But you won't, will you?" Charlie grins brightly. "See this is what's called a learning experience, isn't it?"
