In the late afternoon, there is laughter down by the lake.
"Wait, wait, wait wait wait," says Dennis, propped up on an elbow on the blanket, a foot or two away from the highest ebb of the water. He points with his free arm. "Hit the leaf."
Giggling, Jake sends the intrepid remote control fireboat in completely the wrong direction, out on the lake.
"Almost," says Dennis encouragingly, leaning over to take a look at the controller. "I think for forward, you want to shove that that way, maybe. Just a thought."
"Daaaaaad!" Jake complains, wriggling away with a bout of laughter. He can't escape the long arm of the law, though. Or, rather, the relatively long arm of the dad.
Have we mentioned the shrieks of laughter yet? Meanwhile, the fireboat sails here, there, and everywhere.

Elves are cool. But not as cool as hobbits.

Naturally, she has to inspect.

Dennis isn't much of a lake monster, but he is rolling onto his back with his arm locked around Jake's middle.
[OOC: Wait for a Jake-tag, sil vous plait? We can do a Kate-Dennis-Jake posting order, if that's cool by you. :D]

Well... as far as he knows.

"Actually, there's a squid."
[ooc: No problem at all! Sorry for not pinging before tagging — AIM is being more wonky than usual.]

Beat.
He tips his head back to see the woman who'd spoken.
"Hi."
[OOC: No pinging necessary! *beams*]

"Hello."

And then she looks down at Jake.
"Hi there."
She lowers her voice conspiratorially.
"There really is a giant squid, you know."
no subject
"Is there?" he asks. He glances at Jake, seriously. "Better watch out for your vessel, Snotface. Sounds like the Elves might run into some trouble."

The commotion by the lake's hard to miss, and then it turns out it's someone he met the other day - so that must be the kid. (This is actually slightly easier to handle than the prospect of bumping into the kid by himself - even in Milliways, that has a little sketch factor to it.)
So he heads over. "Not interrupting, am I?"

"Hi."

Aside from the 'obviously having fun' thing, anyway.

Dennis looks up at Jake.
"What about you?"

He looks back down at Dennis.
"You can put me down now."

Tonight's not super-great, but... in general. It's good to know these things.
