It's been a busy couple of days in Mongolia, so Belar's been dividing his attention more than he really likes. Today, though, he's got everything back home nailed down. The sign he puts up on the table in front of him reads:

SECURITY MEMBER ON DUTY

If I'm Not Here, Look For The Glowing Blue Guy

He figures that's simple enough. Oh, and he's turning on the blue glow as long as he's at it. Might as well be sure.

Stark gives Belar a smile when he approaches today. "It is good to see you," he says.

"Morning!" says Belar cheerfully. "What can I do for you, sir?"

Stark shakes his head. "There is nothing, nothing that I truly wish of you," he says. "I merely wished to greet you."

"Fair enough," says Belar amiably. "Good to see you too. Always good to see people in a good mood going about their daily lives."

"You are... well?" Stark asks.

"Oh, sure," says Belar. "I usually am, though. And yourself?"

"I am," Stark says. "I find that I grow more accustom to this place with each passing solar day."

"Very cool," says Belar. "Any particularly interesting things happening, anybody new of interest that you've met?"

"There was a girl," Stark says. "Her name was... Penny." He scratches at his chin. "She says she is a mutation of human, and yet her features were unlike any human I have ever seen."

"Hm. Don't think I've ever met her," says Belar. "I'd remember a name like that. My brother Nedra's people give some of their kids names along those lines. What's she look like?"

"She is red," Stark says. "Fingers like long talons. She glimmers with the light." His finger twitch and fidget. "Magnificent."

"... yeah, definitely not somebody I've seen yet," says Belar. "I'll keep an eye out for her, though. Sounds like she's pretty hard to miss."

Stark nods. "She was quite unique, even in my experience amongst the races of the galaxies."

"Yeah?" says Belar curiously. "How many races do you know? My family's mostly just familiar with the species of Gara and Earth."

"Luxan, Hynerian, Nebari, Delvian, Sebacean," Stark says. "And those are merely the ones I travel with."

"Hm," says Belar thoughtfully. "Definitely not my universe, I knew that all along, but it sure sounds interesting..."

"It is a very... varied area of space," Stark says. "Though we are torn with conflict and war."

"That kind of thing tends to happen in a lot of places," Belar says. "Gara's only just barely starting to get over the worst of that part of its history. And that's just the one planet."

Stark nods. "It seems peace is often merely an unattainable dream."

"Sometimes," says Belar. "Sometimes it's just a long time coming."

Stark nods. "It is always my hope."

Even if he wasn't blue, she'd still know his face.

"Hello Belar."

Like the last time, she's flanked by one lion—hers—today.

Belar looks up and waves. "Hey there," he says. "How's it going?"

"Reasonably well."

Though there is the fact that the cubs are preparing to go home.

It saddens her.

"And you?"

"Eh, doing all right," says Belar. "Keeping an eye on this year's Olympic games and all the fuss going on about 'em. My people have a couple of the slots on the Mongolian national archery team, so it's kind of a big deal for us."

Yes, she knows about that. Well. Not the archery team but the other things going on.

Her sympathy for the people of Tibet and their rightful struggle for freedom and self-determination of their own affairs does not extend to their riotings.

Such actions go against her personal moral code.

"Do you expect them to do well?"

Sure, she'd like to discuss the larger political scope of the games, but she'd rather focus on the archery team today.

"Oh, yeah," says Belar. "They're really good. They've been practicing for years now. I honestly think they're some of the best archers I've ever seen who weren't Asturian longbowmen."

"You've practised archery yourself?" she wonders. Such an appraising eye is normally gained from having done something yourself. "I shall be watching them then, if they are that good. Though, I would say all of the contestants are, if only because I am not attuned to such subtleties."

"Nah. Don't need to," says Belar. "I've been watching Gara for twelve thousand years and change now. You see a lot of things that way, you know?"

Belar's comment brings to the mun's mind a man who writes under the name "Terrierman" and his attitudes of "watching" versus "doing"; that "watching" will never teach you anything - only "doing" does.

We digress. Terrierman was discussing dogs, and at any rate, he was never a god.

"Surely all those years of watching has made you want try out one of those things you were observing?"

'That looks like fun! Let me have a go!'

"Never said I didn't try," says Belar. "But I'm more of a spears and swords kind of god anyway."

"Oh really?"

She looks intrigued.

"I'd like to see that."

She's spent time with several of the Swords Suit in the past—sparred with one or two even—and learned just how good they are at it.

"I'll have to show you sometime. Me, I'm big on broadswords. Some of my people were into sabers on Gara, but the Algars were equestrians. I don't ride that much."

"I don't think the horse would appreciate Shujaa's presence anyways," she smiles. "When the weather outside improves a little more?"

"Sure, not a problem," says Belar. "It's not like I'm gonna run out on this place or anything."

"No. That seems to be more my job. I'm always on-call."

But that's how it is and she wouldn't have it any other way.

Sleep, food and drink, while nice, are not required.

"Security eh? I'm Benjamin Grimm." Ben says with an outstretched hand.

It's always been good to introduce yourself to the security if oyu see them. Tends to make things less ugly if they get messy. Plus it's just plain respect. The guys have a tough job.

Belar looks up and shakes the offered hand. "Belar," he says. "Belar Ulsson if you really need to use a last name. Pleased to meet you, dude."

"Belar? Pleasure."

Ben takes a minute to look around the bar. Again.

"You must have a very interesting job here."

"That's one way of putting it," Belar says. "Most of the time I get the heavy hitters, and the people who've just come in and gotten really confused. And believe me, there's a lot of both."

Ben smirks at the 'heavy hitters'.

"I'll do my best not to be a problem. How often are the tabs due?"

"Meh, they get called in about once or twice a year," says Belar. "The last time they got called in was a couple of months ago. The management appreciates promptness, regardless."

"All management does. Can patrons work temporarily? In case they don't have the cash or get bored?"

"Talk to the Barman about it," says Belar. "Mikey's usually somewhere around here. They're always looking for somebody to take a shift or two when Bar has downtime."

"Will do. Iffin' yah ever need help an' yah see me, give me a heads up. I'll be happy to help keep the peace."

"It was nice meetin' yah. I'm gonna go back to explorin'. You have any suggestions for a new fella in the bar?"
