Little boy, at a table with his homework, eating a big plate of paradoxes.

Nothing abnormal about this kid.

Except this is a place where everything is pretty gosh darn abnormal.

Let this kid know he needs to work on his ability to blend in.

Not that often. Hence the kid staring at his after-school tutor.

...srsly. WHUT.

"I know your parents haven't gotten you any of these yet, so I thought I'd pick you up some as long as I was out. Thought I'd have to send them to you, though."

He pulls out of the bag a flat, brightly-coloured cardboard package of Officially Licensed valentine cards, all inscribed with terrible puns and none expressing any particular affection, perfect for classroom distribution.

...The superhero vigilante just brought Tyler valentines for his class project.

...Tyler has a new weirdest thing to happen in Milliways.

"Thanks... ...why are my parents on the box?"

The Nightmare Detective sounds a bit embarrassed. "Sorry. It was that or ponies."

Tyler looks up from holding the box at the Revenant and then back to ther box.

"....would you be mad if I said I'd like to try making my own?"

"Not terribly." He's rich, remember? "But hang onto them in case."

"Alright... I'm going to go and get some construction paper and get started then..."

As Tyler gets up, a folded up piece of lavender paper flutters to the floor from his homework pile.

"Looks like you already have some," says the Revenant, stooping to retrieve it. "Someone getting an early start?"

Tyler is just going to be blushing a very brilliant shade of pink and trying to grab the note before the Revenant can get it.

Silly child! The Revenant is a spooky ninja. You're just in training.

"Sorry," he says with a smirk in his voice as he unfolds the paper. "It's my job to be nosy."

"...if you read it aloud I will kick you in the kneecaps, sir." Tyler replies sulkily.

The note, written with a girl's handwriting (as one notes the hearts above every 'i') reads as this...

Dear Tyler,

I think you're really ~~sweet~~ ~~awesome~~ cool. And you shouldn't worry about so much stuff... ...you're great at doing stuff and thinking. So..cheer up, okay?

A Secret Admirer

"Nosy isn't the same as indiscreet," the Revenant assures him before returning to the note. He also spares the lad any 'awww's and instead asks, "Is this your first one?"

"Yes." Tyler is going to be giving him that wary look with a hand out for his note plzkthnx. "...why?"

"Just curious. It's one of life's little hardships, I'm afraid." No sarcasm or amusement in his voice, nope. "Of course, it's harder to avoid in a school setting, since she knows exactly where to send the note."

"...how do you know it's a she?"

Broad-minded child, isn't he?

"Lavender paper and hearts over the is? If it is a boy, I applaud his level of self-comfort."

Between Milliways and home, he's got some very broad views on things.

It is, perhaps helpful.

However, all future notes are going straight to the lair from now on.

"....should I be worried about this?"

"I don't see why," he says, handing the note back to Tyler. "She gave you some good advice." His wink is just visible. "You could do worse."

"...Okay now that worries me." The part where he could do worse, though Mr. Revenant saying he shouldn't worry is probably making some interdimensional being start cackling. Tyler replies, giving his mentor another sidelong look. "What do you know about secret admirers anyways?"

The Revenant shakes his head. "Some women have interesting taste. Remind me to tell you about the young lady who decided burglary was the perfect way to catch a fellow's eye... er, when you're older."

...Give it about 15 years and he'll match your burglary-for-a-boy's-attention a whatfor.
