The receptionist who stumbles into the bar is all dressed up with nowhere to go.

... actually, that's not entirely true. She was supposed to be meeting Jim for a date at that little Italian place they liked, and when she opened the door of her apartment, she wound up... well, here.

Since it doesn't look like she'll be leaving any time soon, Pam decides to sit at a table, order a drink, and make an attempt at a conversation or two until a) she can leave for her date or b) her date shows up.

At this point? She's just hoping no one from work sees her like this.

Well. Kaylee thinks she looks nice. Kaylee doesn't work with her, though, so in theory it's all right.

She's one table over; Pam gets a small smile with some warmth to it. "You don't mind a complete stranger sayin' so, you're havin' a good hair day."

A compliment from a stranger? Pam'll take that over a leer from Creed any day.

She looks up from her drink and smiles. "Trust me, it's not the case normally."

"Then I reckon that makes today special, maybe?" Kaylee rests her chin in her hnad.

"Just going on a date," Pam replies, unconsciously smoothing her skirt. "Or, well... I was supposed to be."

Kaylee winces. "Don't tell me you got stood up."

"I'm afraid I'm the one doing the standing up," Pam admits. "I was kinda supposed to be meeting him, and somehow I ended up here."

That's not good. Kaylee reaches for the spear of pineapple and cherry in her drink and give it a stir. "Well." Weakly. "Maybe... you know time don't always move in here like it does outside, right?"

"I hope so."

She's a little worried all of a sudden, but Jim's been here before. It's not like the 'oh, I was just snatched up by a magical bar at the end of the universe' excuse won't work.

"...just out of curiosity, I mean, if you don't mind me askin' -- and if you do, you know, just tell me to go back to my meat on a stick -- "

Kaylee waves an empty skewer for emphasis.

" -- is he the kind of fella gonna buy the magic bar explanation? Or are you gonna have to come up with somethin' else?"

Jim isn't normally the sort of randomly chat to people in a bar, but she's a pretty woman, sitting on her own and looking vaguely out of sorts like he feels here.

He comes over, nodding to her as he gets close. "Mind some company?"

Fancy New Beesly is nothing if not open to sharing a table with someone she doesn't know -- yet.

So she motions to one of the empty chairs near her, nodding with a grin. "Not at all.

"You look like you could use one of these," she adds, as she holds up her drink.

"I'm driving after this," he says by way of apology and explanation. Plus, this place is, in his experience so far, too weird to add drinking to the mix. He takes a seat with a half smile. "I'm Jim Ellison." He offers his hand to her.

"More for me, then," Pam says -- but she's only kidding. Sort of. We wouldn't want another Chili's episode, would we?

She takes the offered hand and gives it a friendly squeeze. "Pleased to meet you. I'm Pam Beesly." Pause. "Jim... I've had good experience with Jims."

He just smiles at her comment of 'more for me', he's off duty and not going to lecture.

He shakes her hand. "Well, glad to hear it. I've had good experiences with Pams."

She's not going to get drunk. Pam and alcohol have never been a good combination. But one or two more drinks can't hurt. Right?

"Really? How many other Pams do you know?" she asks, curiosity piqued.

At least if she is going to drink, there's one person in the bar who will keep on eye on her safety. It's what he does.

"I've known a few. Never met a Pam who wasn't a good woman."

Pam beams at his answer, since it is very obviously a good one.

"And I've never met a Jim I didn't like." There's one that she holds a little higher than the rest, but all Jims are good in Pam's book.

"Someone looks fancy today," says Michael Scott's twin, with a very approving grin. "Have a hot date?"

She still hasn't gotten used to seeing someone who looks just like Michael, and to have him compliment her? Well, Pam would normally still be waiting for a punchline right after. So when it doesn't come, she's pleasantly surprised.

"I do," she answers proudly. "And you?"

"Me? Heh, no," he chuckles. "No date for me. I'm just playing hookey."

An activity Pam regards with only fondness. "Oh, yeah? How long've you been playing hooky for?"

Max glances at his watch.

"Three days."

"I can understand needing a break from work, but three days? Won't they need you to do... top-secret things you'd have to kill me for asking about?"

"Time stops on the other side of the door," he says, beaming. "They won't even know I was gone."

Beat.

"And Jim won't think you stood him up."

His expression reads: amirite or amirite?

The expression on Pam's face can only be classified as pure giddy.

"Oh, good."
