Ray's been fairly busy this morning, mostly with getting things in order with the Deep Ones (who're looking to have words with the various North Atlantic fishery operators), but he's gotten the most important stuff out of the way for the day. As long as they don't have any emergencies erupt today he should be just fine.

Thus, Ray and Francis the robot dog are in Milliways. Francis is in idle mode. Ray's got a glass of the quantum blue stuff going neglected as he fiddles with his map of the worlds of Milliways patrons.

"Hey, Ray!" says the approaching Afro-Asian woman. "I'm ready to go whenever you what is that you're working on?"

"Huh? Oh- hi, Alyx," Ray says. "This is something I haven't worked on in ages- a three-dimensional relative map of the various Milliways patrons' universes. Zero point is my own Earth at the start of the year 2000. X axis is technological development, Y axis is prevailing PKE levels- that's the energetic designation I've been using to cover psychic and other phenomena, which are amazingly common among the Bar's patrons even if they're rare in their own worlds- and the Z axis is chronology, although admittedly that only really works for the variant Earths. If I have to include a world not on Earth's time scale I usually switch the Z axis to sociopolitical development, with feudalism and the like towards the bottom."

This? Is Alyx's 'OOH SHINY' face. Ray's probably familiar with it by now.

"Could I have a copy of that?"

Ray chews on his bottom lip a moment. "I can give you the data files that it renders in the map format," he says, "but you're going to have to write your own parser. I really and truly have no idea how to render a three dimensional holographic map into a format that your computers can reproduce."

"Oh, I've worked with holographic projectors before," says Alyx. "I don't have the hardware to do it right now, but give me time."

"Okay then," Ray says. "I'll get you the files. Make sure you read the map legend several times before you start fiddling with the output. There's a lot of possible display values for the axes, and then there's the philotic connection sub-display- that's the measure of interrelation and connectedness between various represented worlds and the Milliways patrons who hail from them."

"Sweeeeet." Alyx beams. "Anyway, like I was saying, I'm ready to go to your world whenever you're willing to take me."

"Right this way, then," Ray says. "Francis, come."

"WHURF," says the dog as Ray gets up and opens the door.

Bella sees Dr. Stantz working on...something, and walks over to investigate.

"Hello. Working on something important?"

"Oh- hi, Bella," says Ray with a smile. "Just updating my map of the patrons' worlds while I wait for someone I promised to bring back to my world for a visit. how've you been?"

"Busy. But good. For the most part, anyway."

OOC: Slowtime, please, for sleepy mun?

"Sounds familiar- the busy part, I mean," Ray says. "Would that be school, or another kind of busy altogether?"

"School, yes. And correspondance. My parents are dreadfully curious about...everything."

"From what you've described in the past I'm not surprised," Ray says. "Have you told them about this place?"

Bella smiles.

"I wouldn't dare! They would probably think I'd gone mad. Well, Mama would, at any rate."

"My sister's pretty similar in her views," Ray says. "It's kind of a pity when you can't share something with your family because of something like that. Still- it's a good sign that your parents like to be involved in your life, isn't it?"

"I know," Bella agrees, "It's hard to see all of this and be completely unable to describe it to anyone."

She pauses.

"I suppose it's good that they care so much, but they tend to over-interpret every detail of my letters. Nothing is ever 'just' as it seems..."

*shrug*

"Parents can be like that," Ray says. "My mother was. My father wasn't, but he was a chemical engineer. He overinterpreted anything scientific I told him about instead."

Bella rolls her eyes and nods. She knows how that goes.

"So...this project you're working on now---how does it work, exactly?"

OOC: Will be rather slowtime soon, as I have a meeting to get to. Argh!
