Mel got a note with her lunch.

She read it. She read it again.

Then she wrote a reply:

Dent,
Come talk to me. Purple/blue hair. Big red axe.
Mel Fray

The hair, the axe, the Security badge and cheese-fondue-for-one can now be found at her usual central table, where the Slayer is kicking back and wondering if Steph would know who he is.

...yeah, he's definitely a law. Mel smirks, not smiles, though she's attempting for something pleasant anyway.

"Dent, right?"

Harvey offers a hand, "...Call me Harvey."

Place like this? You have to figure the security force would definately look bizzare.

Perhaps. Maybe.

"...mind if I sit?"

"Sure, Harv."

Yeah, he asked for that.

"Tell me whatcha know."

Harvey sits uneasily, "...I'm from Gotham City."

That seems like a good way to start.

"Which a few people have heard of. Ask anybody-and I mean anybody, and they'll tell you we have our share of problems regarding city government and matinence. Last year we had what-" He's still not sure what to call the Narrows Attack, "...Well, we were attacked by this guy named Crane. Massive Riots and a major police presence. This is a city known for it's crime and it's insane asylum."

"...Preamble non-withstanding, we've recently had trouble with a new...class of criminal to match our vigilante population. Figures with a taste for the theatrical. This one..." His voice trails off, "...I spoke to a couple of people who mentioned me which was odd in and of itself and when I mentioned other gothamites-how they'd heard of me they wouldn't offer anymore information."

He leans back, "...Only one guy described him. It's probably a shot in the dark and you'll probably think I'm being ridiculous but the Joker...the joker is not a nice person."

By a long shot.

"I know," Mel says, dropping all smiles. "My sister was a vigilante in Gotham. Joker's been in here before, and we dealt then. No one's taking this lightly."

Dot. Dot. Dot.

He's been in here before?

Sister? Vigilante? Just how many vigilantes do I have to deal with?

"...Different Universe."

It's not really a question so much as it is a statement, Harvey putting his hadns on the table, "...What do you mean the Joker's been in here before?"

"Probably," Mel confirms. "And I mean that he's been in here before. Threatened my boyfriend's ex. Played a trick with a bomb, menaced some people. This was about three years ago."

Harvey's eyes close, "...And it's not the same universe so I can't ask if you got a name or a local..."

He shakes his head, hand clenching into a fist, "....."

There is a long pause, "...I'm sorry about your boyfriend." And he is!"... This clown cut a man's face and hung him up outside our mayor's office most recently."

Translation? If it's our joker, you could maybe step it up a bit? maybe?

"Never got a name," Mel says. "Steph woulda told me. This guy shot another friend in the spine, put her in a wheelchair.

"Not in here, though. We keep it tight."

Harvey is not surprised, "....How tight?"

This is Canon suspicion. Harvey in general has this thing about cops. He doesn't like most of them.

Mel has this thing about cops. Most of them don't like her.

"We got a god on the team. I'm stronger than most baseliners in this place. Most of us are scrappy and angry and we like having the no fly zone."

A god?

"You're talking about an actual diety right? and not somebody who just thinks he's got super powers?"

Harvey's seen his fair share of guys who think they are... "Godly"

He's not even touching that one about Mel, giving her an appraising look before saying, "...This guy's a ghost to define ghosts. No fingerprints on the rope, No DNA on the body-"

On things on the body, but not on the body.

"....How many people are on this team in any case?"

"Bout a dozen," Mel says, not really sure who's in and out. Schedules rapidly became Alanna's business when she got back.

"And yes, actual god. And a few people with track on the other side, too. Y'think using gloves makes you a ghost?"

"...This guy's managed to escape the Gotham City Policeforce-Largest police force in the city of america-"

Not the best. Not particuarly a feat. Harvey is convinced that ninety percent of the cops couldn't find the hand bribing them if they had it slapping them in the face-

"...Not to mention the mob."

More of a feat. Not to mention scarier.

"So've I."

Mel's trying for a balance of confidence through indifference against sober understanding of the situation. She's not sure she's managing it.

"Thing is, this place is smaller. We're mostly metas. And we're not responsible for what happens out of the place."
