"Have you seen my mummy?" he asks.

"Dun't think sew. Yer the first person I've seen with naw face, et least."

He gets a blank stare, and then the boy reaches up a hand.

"Will you help me?"

"Sorry, I dun't think I kin."

Wilbur is smart.

"Don't you want me to find my mummy?"

"Ayuh--but I dun't think I kin, yew see?"

Something's shifted in the Child's demeanour, and he doesn't seem so harmless now.

"Ayuh, I git thet. But I kin't halp yew. I'm sorry."

Wilbur is perfectly willing to keep explaining all day. He can act sane, but underneath it he's at least as nutty as this little 'boy'.
