Shephard generally makes a point of waking up very early in the day to go out and get his daily run around the lake in, along with as much PT as possible. Some mornings, he gets up earlier than others for various reasons. This was one of those mornings.

"I am so fucking sorry," he tells the Bar when he comes in. "You have no idea how goddamn sorry I am. I swear to God I did not know she'd do that all over the bed while I was sleepin' in it."

He'll be starting off his day with orange juice, for once. This is not a morning on which he has any need of coffee.

"But it's not my birthday yet," Lily objects, when Bar presents her with a small cake with improbably red icing and several tall gold candles, which blaze more like sparklers than candles. "Not till the end of the month."

A note appears next to the cake, which Lily dutifully reads, and then smiles, as understanding dawns.

"Oh, I see.

"Well, a very merry unbirthday birthday to me, then," she says.

"Thank you, Bar."

Would anyone like some unbirthday birthday cake?

William's been out at the stables all day doing everything from mucking out stalls to just watching the horses in the paddock.

One of the things he likes best about Milliways in Winter is that, it looks and feels more like the winters he used to know when he was little. Arizona gets cold and gets snow but winter there just means more work.

In Milliways, there's work but not the same pressing need to worry about the herd getting sick or Mark coughing again. Soon he'll head inside, but for now, he's enjoying being with all the different and loved horses of Milliways.
