Tonight's specials board proclaims

Milkshakes and nontraditional martinis half off!

Half of the customers Tifa's gotten are just as happy to order a nonalcoholic drink during happy hours. She figures she might as well have something with no alcohol as a special just in case, and it hasn't been so long since she had a smoothie night.

(Marlene would hate to miss a smoothie night and a milkshake night.)

Behind the bar, she tugs her long hair into a loose ponytail and positions herself in a prime spot.

"Anybody need a drink?"

He has a strange way of talking, she thinks, but so long as she can understand him she's not going to point it out to him.

But he is awfully tall.

"I could make you an orange martini then. It's an easy one to make. Or a strawberry one, if you'd rather." Her smile just gets wider. "I'm Tifa. It's nice to meet you, Wilbur."

"Either es fine." Wilbur shrugs. "Sew, whar yew from?"

"I'll make it an orange one, in that case."

Behind the bar, she fills her cocktail shaker with cracked ice and pours in vodka, some orange liqueur, and a tiny bit of orange bitters. After a good shake, she strains the mixture into a glass and places it on the bar in front of him, garnished with a slice of orange.

"I'm from a town called Edge on the planet Gaia. What about you?"

Most people she's met here have been from Earth, but... none of them have been as tall as Wilbur, for one thing.

"Dunwich, Massachussetts. Near Arkham."

A tentacle slithers out of his coat. It peels open, revealing a fanged mouth, and drinks the martini.

"Massachusetts," she repeats. "Is that on--"

Her eyes are drawn to the tentacle, and surprised, she notes the fangs and tries not to stare as it drinks his martini.

Still, it's her job to serve drinks. Not to make people feel like oddities. Even if the're nearly twice her height and have almost Malboro-style tentacles under their coat.

"--Earth?"

"Ayuh. My Earth es weird, though." He grins. "Lawts o' ghouls, aliens, demuns, yew name et. My Father es an' evil alien gawd, an' my mother was a madwoman."

The tentacle has emptied the glass. It proceeds to eat it, as well.

An evil alien god for a father? It occurs to her that Sephiroth might've envied Wilbur. "I had no idea there were so many different kinds of Earths."

She's never heard of any other versions of Gaia.

She's tempted to ask him how an evil alien god and a mad woman get together, but she's just the bartender.

When the tentacle starts eating the glass, she does a double take. "Did you need something to eat?"

"Et likes ter dew thet," says Wilbur with a shrug.

"Earth seems tew be a popular basic template fer some reason ur other."

This time her bewilderment definitely shines through.

"You didn't make it do that?"

It seems like ingesting glass would be incredibly painful, but the whole thing doesn't seem to bother him at all.

"I generally dun't bother makin' them dew anythin'. Takes tew much energy."

And no, the mun can't explain it. It's just one of those things.

Trying not to look uncertain, she nods. She's just going to have to take his word for it.

In the meantime, though...

"Well, if I can get you anything else, Wilbur, just let me know and I'll be happy to."

"Ef I think o' anythin' I'll be sure tew mention et." Wilbur smiles at her. "Nice ter meet yew."

She smiles herself as another customer catches her eye. For someone saying his father's an evil alien god, Wilbur was actually very polite.
