Tonight's specials board proclaims

Milkshakes and nontraditional martinis half off!

Half of the customers Tifa's gotten are just as happy to order a nonalcoholic drink during happy hours. She figures she might as well have something with no alcohol as a special just in case, and it hasn't been so long since she had a smoothie night.

(Marlene would hate to miss a smoothie night and a milkshake night.)

Behind the bar, she tugs her long hair into a loose ponytail and positions herself in a prime spot.

"Anybody need a drink?"

"Returning the favor. How nice of you."

Most of the time, people who treat their friends well rate in her book.

"Your friend has good taste. I can make him a chocolate mint shake in a flash. Did you want one, too?"

"Actually, can you do coffee for me?" He's a caffeine fiend. "I'm Billy, by the way. I don't think I've seen you around."

"Absolutely. Can I get you cream or sugar for it?"

She starts to work on the coffee first so he can drink it while he waits for the milkshake if he'd like to.

"It's nice to meet you, Billy," she goes on, glancing up with a grin as she pours the coffee. "I'm Tifa. Have you been here long?"

"As much as will fit and you can still call it coffee," He grins. "I've-- well, been here almost two months bar-time, but it's been months for me since I opened my door."

Laughing, she spoons generous helpings of cream and sugar into the coffee and then goes ahead and places both beside the cup when she puts it on the bar. She might as well let him help himself to as much as he'd like.

Once the coffee's taken care of, she starts on the milkshake. "I've been here in the bar about eight months, but I had a little time-bending happen to me lately, too."

Billy tastes the coffee, makes a face, and adds two more spoons of sugar. The endgame is for it not to taste like coffee, if she's wondering.

"It sucks, doesn't it?"

Keeping a curious eye on his sugar usage -- it looks like letting him help himself was the smart thing to do -- she smiles wryly in reply and can't help nodding.

"In a nutshell."

The drone of the milkshake mixer agrees, and once the ice cream and milk look mixed well enough, she pours it all into a glass.

"There you go. One chocolate mint milkshake."

Billy takes a curious sip, then gives a thumbs-up. "He'll approve. I have to look like I'm drinking it, though, so he'll come steal it from me."
