Belar plops himself down in the first available chair, muttering something under his breath about dysentery. The sign goes up:

It's been one of those days.

"I-I might be able to find you a book." says a small furry person under the table.

"Thanks, kid," says Belar, leaning under the table, "but I really need an actual person with experience. I can't miracle yaks properly unless I've got someone alive and knowledgable there in front of me to work with."

Wellington, who is in his late twenties, nods anyway.

"Oh, that's a shame. I-it's a good book, and I know a bit about looking after injured birds and rabbits and things, but never something as big as a yak. We don't find them in the park, so unless we go to the zoo we'll never actually see one." he explains.

Belar's twelve thousand years old; he considers pretty much anybody under about nine or ten thousand to be 'daughter' or 'son' at best in terms of age. It's one of those things.

"It'll probably turn out to be useful for someone else," Belar says. "There's always somebody around here who could use some help, y'know?"

The Womble nods shyly.

"Silly of me I suppose, p-people could get books from the bar. I'm Wellington, by the way. I'm a sort of librarian stroke scientist back home."

"Nah, it always helps to have a personal recommendation, I've found," says Belar. "My name's Belar. I'm the prosperity god of the Dorbed people of Mongolia. Nice to meet you, Wellington."

"N-nice to meet you too sir." Wellington says nervously, extending a paw to shake. He's not sure how a god ought to be addressed.

"Is the sick yak here, would it like some company?"

Belar shakes the offered paw with a smile. "Nah, it's back home, along with a bunch of other sick yaks," he says. "The herd's having issues. I"m just trying to head this off before it gets worse."

Wellington thinks for a moment.

"Do you need to be with the vet at the time you see the yak or can they be two seperate events?"

"As long as I can get the vet in front of the yak," Belar says, "and one of the Dorbed is there, I can be there no matter where or when I am. It's a little complicated, but it works."

"Oh, I was just thinking that London has a zoo, and maybe I could take you there, but I don't think you'd be able to get the others there."

Belar considers this, but shakes his head regretfully. "Wouldn't work," he says. "The yak's got to be in the lands of my people for me to be able to work with the vet. Good idea, though. I appreciate the effort."

"That's a shame." Wellington doesn't like to hear of animals in distress.

"I... I don't suppose you'd be able to, um, borrow the vet with your god powers and return them to London afterwards?"

"It's possible," Belar says. "If I can't find somebody here I might just do that."

"All right." Little smile. "My kind don't show themselves to humans, but as long as I can be disguised I can take you to London and help you find the zoo."
