It was just a single step, but some times you need to leave a map for people who come after.

Yunno is down in the bar working from a collection of notes and picking at his portable computer keyboard. The table is covered with paper. Items include:

1-Mana density flow analysis for sustaining Lesser Nobodies.

2-The spell anchor points needed to build a Transfer spell into a Device.

3-His sign, which reads as it has for some time:

Translations
Reasonable Rates
English, Japanese, Ancient Belkan, Mid-Childan
Others with sufficiently large samples.

Will also trade for combat instruction.
Staff or unarmed preferred.

If he didn't want to be bothered, he wouldn't have the sign up. Surely.

He hasn't noticed the papers yet. "--Do you really speak all those languages?"

"Yes," he says looking up, "At varying levels of fluency. I'm Yunno Scrya, Scrya being my family name. Do you have something you need a translation for?"

The paper will get noticed soon enough. Lots of paper.

Well, he sees that there are papers. He hasn't noticed what's on them. Yunno might notice a small cluster of Nobodies a few feet away, however.

"--Wow. Um, no, I was just curious. I can't even manage Spanish."

Yunno has his own pair. The Blue Mage and the Ninja keep a bit more space - Yunno's style of magic is uncomfortable for Nobodies.

"I've spent most of my time on Earth in Japan," he offers, "It's easier to learn when you end up surrounded by a language."

And telepathically communicating with a native speaker.

"The English just sort of happened though."

Oh, he does notice now! And he hasn't seen a Blue Mage yet, either. "--Who's that?" He asks, tilting his head at the lesser.

"Some of the Nobodies get protective of me," says Yunno with a shrug, "Zexion left that Blue Mage as a research assistant observer combination."

And it's voice is creepy. Gah.

"Larxene's just making sure nothing happens to me with the Ninja. I think. Yours?"

"Same, kind of. Larxene's paranoid, Xaldin thinks I might be useful, Demyx says Galadriel chose to stay on her own, and I have no idea what Axel's game is." He sounds a little out of breath. "How'd you get Zexion to like you? He seems kind of prickly."

"I'm fairly certain he doesn't actually," says Yunno, "I'm working on a project to help the lessers be higher functioning. The Blue Mage is probably around more as a recorder for the research than anything else, I figure."

Yunno just sort of skips to practical options and facts when he thinks about the Nobodies. That and cynicism, it's way faster.

If only Billy had taken that attitude, he might have gotten in less trouble. And amused his mun less.

"Oh, yeah? Like, to let them talk and stuff?"

Yunno's arranging for attempts to indirectly re-Heart thousands. He's got more than enough trouble coming.

"Running errands, that sort of thing," agrees Yunno, "The Blue Mage is actually fairly self aware already. Which is some of the most encouraging news I've had on the topic since I've started."

He has intermediary points! It doesn't have to be one shot to match up with the Org members.

"Cool. How are you planning to go about it?" One nerd, fascinated, here.

"It's- say the lessers are like a load of bricks in a bucket that the Org members are each holding," starts Yunno with hand gestures as he describes what he's talking about, "I'm going to build a block and tackle. Anything more complete than that is going to take some fairly heavy math to explain."

Xaldin brought a small supercomputer for the project. Just sayin'.

"I'm no good at math," he admits. "But i think I kind of understand, except what's that going to mean doing in practical terms?"

Melpomene has, surprising, only heard of two of the languages. So naturally, she's intrigued.

"Hello," she says in Japanese.

[The mun will not, in fact, be attempting to actually speak in Japanese.]

Yunno pops up and bows. Japanese language means Japanese manners.

"Hello," replies Yunno, "My name is Yunno Scrya, Scraya being my family name. Is there something you'd like translated?"

"Actually," she says, though she has no manners to accompany her linguistic skill, "I was just curious about the Belkan and Childan. I've never heard of them, and I'm supposed to know every language in the world. From what world do you hail?"

Ray made the same mistake. It's like hyphens don't count.

"I take it you are from one of the Earths?" offers Yuno, "Mid-Childan is the current major language for Mid-Childa, the world I was born on. Ancient Belkan is an older language from an earlier civilization."

Ah. Well. The hyphen one of the most disrespected and underrepresented punctuation marks out there.

"Yes. From 2008, if the number means anything to you."

[magic_ferret]

Yunno makes a slight face.

"Not much I'm afraid. I'm terrible at converting Earth dates. Hours and days are one thing, but the years always get me confused."

In all fairness he was mostly on planet around late December to early January and the Mid-Childans had a calendar reform within the last two generations. And they don't show the year on screen that the mun can find.

"Well, I doubt I'd be able to convert in the other direction, so that's fair."

"What do you do when you aren't at Milliways? I'm a librarian and an archeologist myself these days."

He's also ten, because anime ages are more like guidelines.

"Oh, this and that."

It's not very helpful, but it's true.

Yunno is blushing. This is because what makes a euphemism is not the same for each language. Not the same at all.

"Oh."

Melpomene eyes him, curious.

"Yes, I've never really held down a steady job, as such."

[magic_ferret]

Not helping. So very not helping.

"Really?" says Yunno is a strangled tone, "I sort of fell into my current position by accident myself. Otherwise I would have ended up with the rest of the clan, running digs and managing collections for patrons. At least where I am I know I'm doing something useful."
