Jim sits quietly at the bar, looking over various and sundry briefings from Starfleet. He's particularly interested in the rather understated announcement that the transwarp drive aboard Excelsior has been removed and will be replaced with a standard (if state of the art) warp core. The Great Experiment is over, and Jim isn't at all surprised.

"But the idea of driving a car still appeals to you?"

"They are in several worlds that I have been to, and would go to again," Teja says. "It would be good if I was able to do it, when I am there. One may assume that I would be able to ride a motorcycle without much more learning, as they are much like the speeder bike Atton Rand built me, only with wheels."

If Teja wasn't dead already, this might sounds suspiciously like famous last words.-

"I think I've seen motorcycles in museums. They do seem simpler, but I think they are bit riskier as well."

"They might be," Teja says, "as they are fast, and do not provide any metal around the one who rides them. But the most important point is the combination of speed and balance, and I need to use those with the speeder bike, also. I might learn."

'Traffic law' is a somewhat alien concept to the Goth.

"Well, if you have some practical experience with something like a motorcycle, there's no reason to start over with a car." And certainly Jim would understand the appeal of not having a roof, as most cars after a certain era do.

"Not all would ride a motorcycle," Teja says, "and only two fit on it, in any case. If I would go somewhere with another in his world, and travel to a distant place, then I might take turns driving and help in that way, rather than be nothing but a passenger."

"That's fair enough. Though I seem to recall that you need a license for that."

"Oh, I would not wish to have a car of my own; I would use the car of whoever it was took me to his world," Teja says.

The idea of a 'driving license' is an alien concept to him, also.

"Yes, but if you get into an accident while driving, you need to prove you are allowed to drive. We have that for any and all craft even in my day." Never mind the function of the license as an ID.

"That would make things more difficult," Teja says, "as I could not swear to avoid all accidents -- sometimes, another would act so stupidly, and accident could not be avoided."

"Something to consider." And it's not like Jim would ever suggest getting a fake ID of any sort.

Teja would find that deeply dishonourable, unless it happened for the sake of his people!

"Then it might be somewhat pointless for me to learn," Teja admits. "Still, I am curious and would try."

"Learning something new, even for its own sake, is always a good thing." But you'll never see Jim behind the wheel again any time soon.
