Boy, bar, several pieces of lined paper and a scowl.

He needs to figure out who to write notes to, and how to say what he needs to say.

Judging by the collection of balled-up papers nearby? It's not going well.

And Billy is a teenage boy, which is a species not far removed from Stitch.

"I could eat."

"The sandwiches are good."

Beat.

"And the root beer floats."

And X will order some if Billy does not object.

"I don't like rootbeer," He says, amicably. "But a sandwich would be nice. Did you know there's a children's fund?"

"Oh. It is too sweet?"

She pauses, frowning slightly.

"No."

Beat.

"It is relevant?"

"I thought I was going to go into debt paying for a room here." So very relevant.

He loves sweets, but rootbeer. Bleh.

"Oh."

Beat.

"You cannot get a job?"

"...haven't really thought about it."

"There are stables," X says.

"And the kitchens. You have bartended before?"

"Uh-huh. Just the once. And animals don't usually like me much."

"Oh."

X looks just this side of startled.

"I did not know."

Beat.

"Why?"

"Because." He shrugs uncomfortably. "It's mostly cats."

"Oh."

X looks a little uncomfortable now, too.

"Liz has cats. I like them."

This is clearly relevant.

He's only met Liz once, and doesn't really remember her.

"That's good. They tend to attack me, except black ones."

X frowns.

"That does not make sense."

X fails at understanding how witches work--even witches in popular culture.

"Cats are spiritually sensitive."

"Oh."

Beat.

"Steve McQueen likes to escape."

That is about as much commentary on this phenomenon that X can offer.

"...who now?"

Steve McQueen, as far as he knows, is House's pet rat.

"Steve. He is Liz's cat. Or Red's."

Beat.

"I am not sure."

"Oh. Er." Billy tilts his head. "Is that Red as in Hellboy?"

X nods.

"Yes."

Beat.

"I like him. You have met him, too?"

"Yeah. He's really cool."

"Yes," X repeats.

"He likes movies."

Beat.

"I do not watch many."

"He mentioned Dirty Harry."

X--well, for X this might count as 'lighting up'.

What it boils down to in practice is that the set of her face softens, just a hair.

"Yes. We watched that. It was very good."

Beat.

"You like it?"
