Justin's feeling colourful today, as well as artsy. Well, he's always feeling artsy but there is a work ethic behind today's need to draw.

Sit for a quick portrait, have a drink on me. And also, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it. Come join me if you wish you were at home today.

He has decided to do some work on his portfolio. So there you go, one blond teenager behind the bar, saying; 'We're on for Happy Hour, everyone. What can I get you?'

'I guess so.'

He's a teenager. Even with his artist's eye, grass is not something that has ever really struck him as anything but...grass. Besides, at this point in time he is still tending towards drawing naked guys.

'Did you want a drink? Free if you'll sit for me for ten minutes.'

Teja would be good to draw. He's dramatic-looking.

Teja sits, looking serious. "Yes, you may draw me," he says. He would not wish to be drawn smiling!

"And I would drink some well-watered red wine, if I may."

'Cool.'

He gets the drink first, then picks up his sketchpad.

'You don't have to hold completely still, I'm just going to make some rough sketches first. You can kee those after if you like.'

Teja still does sit still. "I might give them to my Tonio, or Asher, when they next come to this place," he says.

'OK.'

Up to him. Justin goes quiet for a while, absorbed in his work. It only takes about five minutes to fill two pages with rough sketches - profile, a single feature, one eye and half a nose, full face in a few sparse lines...yet they all manage to be unmistakably Teja. He puts them on the bar and flexes his hand a couple of times.

'Real thign now. Want to stretch or anything first?'

If Teja is going to do it properly and keep absolutely still, it's only polite to offer him the chance to move first.

"I can keep still much longer, observing an enemy," Teja says. "I am not uncomfortable."

He does not move; not even to taste his drink, now.

'Yeah, but we're in a bar,' he replies, without rancour. It's safe to say that he's gong to remain cool with Teja for a while longer but he no longer is full of anger every time the guy comes near him. Besides, this is about art.

He doesn't talk any more, just picks his pad back up and gets to work. It only takes about twenty minutes - he'll add the finishing details to it on his own time - but the result is very good. There's a reason why he'll be a professional artist one day.

It's shown to Teja with not so much pride, as confidence. It's the warrior in half-profile, looking solemn but also proud and strong.

'Like it?'

"Very much, indeed," Teja says. "It does look very much like me. I never had artists like that work for me any more, that would put my portrait on coins. But if I had had the skillful coin-makers of the old Roman times in my employ, my coins would have looked much like that."

'Must be weird to see your face on coins,' he muses, as he puts his pencils away.

'I think it would freak me out. Pretty awesome though. And I'll get you a copy of that if you like - when I get home, I can scan it and make reprints.'

"I know not what can and reprint is, but I trust you to make copies of it," Teja says. "I never saw my face on a coin; that art was mostly lost, at my time, and compared to the Roman coin of old, thee coin of our time was crude. There were coins with Totila's face, when he was king; but they looked nothing like him, just a face with a crown standing for 'this is the king who issues this lawful coin'. I had coins made, but not many; they are rare in the future, and I bought my guitar from what I got from selling only two silver pieces."

'Yeah, I bet. Stuff from your time would be worth a fortune in mine.'

If he were of that sort of mind, he would be thinking how profitable Milliways could be. He's not though.

'You've never seen a computer before? That's how you reprint stuff these days.'

"I have seen men work on these computators," Teja says. "Even the purple godling that runs the library has one, to keep track of the books. But I knew not that they may be used for art!"

Justin nods.

'Oh yeah. You can draw and then make your picture come up on the screen with a scanner, so that you can adjust it or save it or print it or whatever. Or you can get a tablet, which lets you draw with the computer itself. Really cool ones, you can draw right on the screen. You can do pretty much whatever you like.'

"Interesting, even though I see no use of them for myself," Teja says. "What would a smith or a musician use such a computator for? But I can see it would be useful to an artist."

'You can make music on a computer.'

He doesn't know how to do it himself but he knows it can be done.

'There are heaps of programs for creating your own stuff.'

"All I ever heard a computator make was 'beep' and 'doodle', and then the purple godling would curse," Teja says.

He has to laugh at that.

'Maybe it was an old computer - or maybe the purple guy doesn't know how to use it properly.'

Not that Justin's any expert.

'Some people make whole albums - really awesome ones - on computers. You just have to know what you're doing.'

"The purple godling uses it to list books," Teja says. "I must ask if his computer can make music, also."

'If it can't, Bar will probably be able to sort you out with one,'he offers, helpfully.

'I know she got me an ipod and they're like mini computers. Make sure you get instructions on how to use the programs though, otherwise you'll get lost. They can be pretty complicated.'

"I do not know that I would wish to own such a machine," Teja says. "They seem to absorb overmuch of their owners minds. It is enough that I am owned by cats already!"

'Owned by cats?'

What.

'You could just borrow one, if you don't want to buy one. Like an experiment, see what you make of it.'

"Yes, indeed, I would ask the purple godling first, to try out music on his machine," Teja says. "And, indeed, I do assume I am owned by the forge cats -- I certainly do not own them!"

'I didn't know you had any.'

Aww.

'Cats are cute but I've never had one - allergic.'

Teja nods. "I believe that is what Attila is, also -- the cats make him sneeze, when he is close to them."

'Yeah, sounds like it - allergies are a drag.'

He rolls his eyes, at himself.

'I'm allergic to just about everything, including most of the medicine you take for them. Weird that your friend would have them though; in my time we're always told that it's a modern thing, just because we're all so coddled. Apparantly, people back in the day didn't get them at all.'

So now he is smug. Ha.
