Knox is, as usual, reviewing the papers. He skims coverage of the New Hampshire primary results, and see that Governor W. J. Blythe has dropped out of the race, and that Senator Warren Eden of Kansas is planning to come to Gotham before the primary in March. He looks for the latest Lex Luthor sightings (now as frequent as Elvis sightings, and as likely). He checks out the first dispatches from Spring Training, though he's sure this won't be the Mets' year. And he tries to find some super-hero news, but it's been quiet for the Flash and Superman and Batman of late. He hopes that passes.

As he reads, he sips his coffee and nibbles on a donut. Come say hi.

A tallish woman takes a seat nearby: her Navcom did not finish recalibrating yet, so the Bar is a welcome distraction.

Samus did not change her choice of fashion (http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq304/dacatus/samus/zeromission-02.gif) either.

Right now she is pondering what to have for dinner.

Knox naturally notices the woman. And naturally ogles her for just a moment, but only a moment since he's still quite smitten with Rapunzel.

"Hey."

The woman flashes a casual smile. "Hello."

Fear not, she is not dressed like that to tempt people.

"You new here? I don't forget faces." At least not pretty ones.

"Arrived yesterday, staying for a few. I am technically on vacation, so..." No hurry to go anywhere.

"There are worse places to go on vacation." Gotham in winter, for instance. "Anyone go over the rules and whats and whyfors?"

"The rules, yes. I have met a man named Teja, outside just after I landed." She nods. "Whats and whyfors, not yet."

Now he has to think about what that would be specifically. "You know about how to pay?"

"Yes, I discovered that the Bar will take my my card." That was pretty intuitive, automated bar, automated debts.

"Better food and drinks than at the Locker."

"And you already know about the rooms, and the outside.

"Not that I'd go outside this time of year." Or in that outfit.

"I'm Alex Knox, by the way. Gotham City, 1992." He extends his hand.

"I scanned the outside as I arrived." And she did say 'landed'. "The rooms here are much better than my cabin too."

The woman actually gets up and moves to his table, sitting down and offering a hand. "Samus Aran. My main base of operations is The Locker, and it is 2023 on the Cosmic Calendar."

"Cosmic Calendar...so you aren't from 30 years in my future, and aren't from Earth currently." He ponders this, but really lacks a good frame of reference.

"Old Earth? I was born in one of its colonies, but never have visited the mother planet. People say all humans came from there, long ago." She nods. "The Cosmic Calendar is calculated from the colonization of the Daiban System."

"What's the news?" Babs asks with a tiny smirk as she catches Knox's eye.

He returns a warm grin. "Hey, Barb. Let's see...do you want the villain report or the political report?"

Babs lifts her wrist to look at a watch she's not wearing. "Looks like I've got time for both," she grins.

He smirks now. "We just had the New Hampshire primaries. Not my usual beat, but there was a sex scandal, and that made it hard to ignore. This governor from Arkansas named Blythe was accused of having an affair, and even though he denied it to high heaven, he slipped in the polls behind Senator Eden from Kansas and dropped out.

"And what's even more impressive is that Eden is planning to visit Gotham."

"Really?" Babs lifts an eyebrow. "Most politicians avoid the city." Not without good reason.

"Yeah, the last one who came was Reagan, to show everyone what a bad job Carter did with the East End. Which Carter visited in '76." He thinks for a moment. "That guy who looks like Superman...Gore, I think?...was in Bristol four years ago, but that doesn't count."

"Huh. So is that whole affair thing the main issue this time around, or is there something else everyone's talking about?"

"The affair kind of sidetracked things a bit. It always does." He's not making apologies for his brethren on the political beat. They need to sell papers and ad space on TV, right? "But so far it was mainly about the economy. Maybe a bit about whether Bush proved he could lead after the Gulf War. It hasn't really been exciting to me." Does it really matter who's in the White House anyway? Gotham still gets screwed. "National politics isn't as much fun as local."

"Now that's always true when you're talking about Gotham," Babs laughs in agreement.

"We just had yet another mayoral election. Hamilton Hill won unopposed after his competition killed Max Shreck and seemingly got killed by a woman in a catsuit.

"Which wasn't as much fun as it sounds like it could be." A pause. "I wasn't there, of course. It's all hearsay and rumor and old Pointy Ears still isn't giving interviews."

"True to form, huh."

Babs cocks her head. "When you say catsuit, are we talking a skintight suit or a suit with cat ears and such?" She grins, "With Gotham you have to check."

"Apparently both. I didn't get to see her, but she was calling herself Catwoman. She was...well, I'm not sure what she was doing. Some said she was working with Cobblepot - the dead candidate - and others said she was helping Batman. But right after the whole thing cam down, she vanished. Another urban legend, I suppose." He isn't sure there's really a story here. But the photos would be great.
