[OOM: "Have fun in Times Square, you guys."]

The door opens on a street scene full of cops and waist-high fences. "Much better than the Olive Garden," Ray says approvingly as he enters the Bar. "Hey, Bar? Can I get something that'll carry me through the rest of my duty shift tonight? The less time I have to spend away from my post, the less I have to go through the New Year crowds in either direction."

Having been given a substantial sandwich and a glass of his usual green stuff, he then heads for a seat with a good view of the Window.

If Ray's particularly observant, he might notice a good lil friend working diligently over a familiar piece of hardware.

Tyler's going over his grappler gauntlet one more time, since this weekends assignment was to install a new useful piece of hardware.

Ray is only 'particularly observant' when it comes to snakes. He might not be able to die of poison but being bitten does icky things to his stomach. He does, however, look up and spot the familiar form eventually.

"hey, Tyler."

At the hail the kid's head snaps up from the work, grinning. "Hey, Ray!"

"How's it going? Happy almost New Year in my world, I don't know where the calendar stands in yours."

"It's just the start of April 2007." Tyler repies. "Only been 2 days since..you know."

Top ten reasons you let the mystic kids build their own oracle decks. They're usually right.

Ray winces. "Joy. I'd ask if you wanted to come visit my world tonight, but it's New Year's Eve and Ecto and Winston and I have guard duty at the Times Square celebrations."

"S'okay, I don't think I'd like spending time in that kinda party."

"The only other thing is that Zodon, Ambriel and I got picked for flag duty this month." Shouldn't matter much. "You should've seen the fuss American Eagle made."

"I'm not really a party person myself, but it should be interesting to see. Hopefully we won't actually have to respond to anything. New Year's Eve tends to be relatively spiritually quiet."

"I think I- American Eagle. Was that the kid who ran for class president?'

"American Eagle and USA Patriot Act were the two kids who ran for president. Every year. They've still got their government friends too."

"That's kind of an awkward code name, if you don't mind my saying so. How are you supposed to call out to someone with a name like that in combat without getting the supervillain hammer between the eyes three syllables in?"

"I don't know, it was their government friends that made up their code names. And Give them the stuff they ask for." Tyler replies. "Most of the time the kids just call them Eagle and Patriot. Those two have serious problems."

Ray makes a face. "I admit that the Ghostbusters are a government organization now, but at least when we form a new unit the names get picked by the local members and come out sounding a little less dorky. Overly ideological superheroes are just asking for trouble, if you ask me."

"No kidding, I don't think I've heard either Eagle or Patriot ever talk or act like normal kids." Tyler replies. "They talk like grown-ups half the time, and the other half they're trying to 'protect the president of the class'."

"Which is you?" Ray says. "Oh, that's got to be fun."

"I don't have a lot of classes with em, and usually those I do, I have the two of them at the same time." Tyler rolls his eyes. "At least during those classes, I can count on them to be too busy arguing with each other to give me too much trouble."

The grappler gets a poking. "Hey, Ray? what do you think would be cool and useful to add to the grapple gauntlet?"

Ray nods about the classmates, but peers at the gauntlet thoughtfully. "Laser sighting?" he suggests. "Unless it's already got an IR targeting system or something."

"I think it's got targeting already. Not sure what kind, but Mr. Revenant wants me to add on something I'd think would be useful for fighting crime."

"mmm. How's it set for sensor noise?" Ray says. "Stuff that would be the equivalent of a smoke bomb for anybody trying to track you with it? Obviously a smoke bomb proper could be something of a problem since you'd have to deal with inhaling, but..."

"That might be cool...still don't know if the medallion covers me when it comes to cameras and electronics."

Ray nods. "During the Second World War, a number of Allied pilots used the tinfoil from chewing gum wrappers to mess up enemy radar sensors," he says. "Hundreds of tiny bits of reflective chaff made the radar screens of the time very unhappy. The major problem with using an item like that is that you can be tracked by the particles involved, but if you have some other means of confusing a sensor or set of superhuman senses..."

"...what would do that?"

"How many superhumans do you know of who have enhanced senses? You know, better vision, better senses of smell, things like that?"

It takes a moment for tyler to run through his list of possible candidates.

"A couple at school, Nora's a werewolf so she's got enhanced smell and nightvision."

"Well, if someone is trying to track you by enhanced senses, whether it's natural or by means of some kind of device, it's going to be a lot harder for them to do that if you overload that sense. A werewolf trying to track you by smell who suddenly got a snoot full of something that smelled really, really strong would have to break off and sneeze for a while, and anybody using low-light vision who got a sudden flash of light in the face would be temporarily blinded while you got away."

"Flash Grenades and Pepper Bombs. I caught a whiff of the pepper stuff in the bomb once and it made my eyes water."
