Well, it seems that getting a connection to the 'net from Earthside here at Milliways is not quite possible-
At least yet, and Laini has already put that down on her list of things to investigate and fix asap.
But that would be the reason why the Fox is sitting at a table with a hard copy of the Yellow Pages, of all things, instead of searching through the listings online with her PDA. She is paging through it carefully- already the ink has smudged on her hands and causing her nose to wrinkle. Bleh.
At least Laini has some coffee right at hand.

Slowtime Doom is Love?
"Please?" adds the larger, wolfish one next to him.
Re: Slowtime Doom is Love!
"Not my table and-or chairs, though the 'please' does get you points." With a wave of a hand she indicates said chairs.

"Are you saving a space for anyone, or do you just feel like being alone?"

"I am quite up for distractions, or else I'd be at home surfing the 'net and finding out what I needed to know without getting ink rubbed off on my hands."

"I'm setting up shop on Earthside, more than likely in San Fransisco. Need to find a decent place for an apartment, and then also a place to set up offices for a tech support company." She smiles wryly. "I more than likely could just close my eyes and pick who ever my finger lands on, when it comes down to it. But I guess I'm just looking at one to catch my eye in the hopes they'll be easier to work with and maybe not be so much of a stick in the mud, y'know?"

"Or perhaps some of the events that happened while I was there, though overall things ended nicely."

They like bad things.

A pinkish blobbish something else that just landed in the middle of the yellow pages with a plip before bouncing into her shirt.
And from way across the bar, a boy with a trebuchet built out of toys goes 'eep' very, very quietly.

It seems to be moving in a very direct route towards something.

And much, much better than dealing with the Yellow Pages-
Which gets left alone at the table (alas), as Laini follows.

The fact there's a sheepish little boy with a tray of what looks like a dozen balls of the same pinkish material and a trebechut made out of Knex is entirely coincidence, really.

"So, you've got to explain these to me."

"Super strong and with nanite? What sort of intelligence are we talking here?"

"Doesn't look like that's an interesting read," remarks Gaeta lightly from not too far away. His arms are folded; there's a very slight smile on his face.
no subject
"But at least in here I can get pleasant distractions, such as yourself. So..." She holds both hands out as if to balance the two.
"Hard copy reference book in an interesting place, verses superfast look-up capabilities in a free wi-fi cafe with less interesting people. Hmmm."
no subject
"Tough call," he jokes. Like everything else, the ironic tang to it -- Gaeta, a distraction? Really? -- is restrained, subtle. Venturing closer, "What're you trying to look up?"
no subject
"I'm basically looking to set up shop for a while on Earthside, so need to find an apartment then some office space for the business cover I'm setting up." She rolls her eyes cheerfully. "Things are a bit more complicated than the last time I did this."
no subject
"I have no idea where that is," he admits. A beat, just long enough for the interested -- and mildly eager -- look to resettle on his face. "Could you show me?"
Yeah, the map's a good idea.
no subject
Bah, she worked for the Cartography Project for how long?
More than long enough. Grinning, she pulls out her PDA, and just a few moments later an illusion (holographic) display of North America neatly labeled in English appears above the table.
"San Fransisco, a city thankfully populated by enough odd and eccentric people that I should have no problems fitting in. Lovely place- I've been there quite a few times."
no subject
Besides Galactica's computers, Gaeta dealt in charts and plotting, DRADIS screens, all the ways to illustrate the universe and pinpoint your location in it. Ever since coming to Milliways, a not-insubstantial part of him has continued to stand in quiet, stubborn disbelief over everyone's assertions that they're from Earth.
But this --
That's it.
That's an actual continent. A map. It's proof, the sort that connects up in Gaeta's mind much better than simple descriptions do.
He nods at Laini's words, an absent and automatic acknowledgment, but he doesn't take his eyes off of the hologram.
no subject
... She can sort of get the whole map-lust-thing.
With a faint smile, she taps a few more keys on her PDA, and the hologram expands to a complete, slowly spinning globe, complete with a nightside full of city lights showing the centers of human population, circa 2007.
"Earthside's a bit easier to map out than Underhill. I've got quite a few files on it." Quietly, as to not to disturb Gaeta.
But files can easily be copied.
