Bored Bill is bored.

Against better judgment he asks Bar for something to do and she gives him a box and a root beer float.

Lifting the box he arches a brow.

"Really? C'mon."

The float disappears and his eyes widen.

"Hey, okay. I asked, I'll give it a try."

The float reappears along with a bowl of M&Ms.

Smiling Bill opens the box and sets up the game, his first attempt careening off at an odd angle into someones drink.

"Oh damn, sorry."

Maybe she's starting to feel a little more comfortable with that fact, too.

"No sex, no grudges, no violence," she replies, rattling them off one by one.

"Well, that just makes me look sad in comparison," Beckett admits.

He nods, glad she knows the basics. He's not that great at explaining things.

"Not at all. Especially because you seem to be takin' it all so well. It ain't an easy place to get used to."

"Maybe because I haven't seen half the things you've seen in your three years." Beckett grins and makes another attempt, this one successful, and briefly celebrates.

"I'm giving it time."

Laughing at that he shakes his head, "A lotta people ain't seen half the things I have since I been here."

Poor Bill is kind of a trouble magnet.

"My main advice is watch out for the demon bunnies and uh, if you end up changed somehow don't worry 'cause it'll get better."

He grins when she makes it and nods.

"Good job."

She starts a little at the mention of 'demon bunnies' and then manages to find her words by the second half of his sentence.

"Changed how?"

He winces at her startle, realizing he's probably freaked her out.

"Well, uh, just... changed. Sometimes weird things happen around here an' lots of people get caught up in it."

He doesn't like to admit to his own weird transformations but obviously he needs to give examples or she might really be freaked out.

"Like on Halloween a lot of people get stuck in weird costumes or forms. I uh, I was a moose this last year."

It's all she can do not to laugh.

"You," Beckett says. "A moose."

Now she has to wonder if he's just really pulling her leg, because that? Well, that's pretty ridiculous.

"Antlers an' everything," He promises.

"I was bound for the night an' then changed back by mornin'. It's weird an' really hard to believe, but that's Milliways for ya."

The part that causes her to nearly break out into full laughter is the one where he's not kidding.

"Well, here's hoping I don't wind up as a moose," she replies.

She can laugh, he's well used to it by now. Given everything that's happened to him he has to know how to laugh at himself.

"I'll keep my fingers crossed for you."

"Thanks," Beckett replies, with a slow, sincere smile.

She pauses.

"Can I refill that?" she asks, pointing to his rootbeer float.

He looks at his nearly empty glass then back at her and smiles.

"Sure, thanks."

"Another one, Bar," Beckett says, still feeling somewhat ridiculous for speaking to an invisible entity in the first place. "On me."

The foaming drink appears next to Bill seconds later.

"Thanks," He says again then picks up the glass and has a drink.

"So, is Rick your partner?" Since Castle isn't around Bill would kind of like to know a bit about him incase he runs into him.

"He's a writer, actually. Of murder mysteries." Beckett leaves out the part where she has all of his books and is sort of a fan, to be honest.

"He's been shadowing me on the job lately, as inspiration for his next series. Apparently I'm his muse or something." She says this with slight disdain.

"A writer? Huh." That sounds interesting in a way that Bill could never see himself doing it.

"Don't like the company?" He asks, going off the slight scorn.

"It's not that, exactly," Beckett backpedals. She doesn't hate Castle, not by any means.

"He's naming the character Nikki Heat. Nikki Heat," she repeats. "Tell me that doesn't sound like a character in a porno."

He bites back a laugh and gives an awkward shrug.

"I-- I don't know nothin' about writin' myself so... but, uh... it might sound like an' action star, too. Kinda... "

Honestly, because she said it, he's totally thinking porno.

Beckett fixes him with another one of her looks.

Because really, it totally is porno.

"I'm trying to get him to change it, but he insists it only creates good title ideas. Summer Heat, Heat Wave, In Heat." She rattles these off, almost ashamed that she still remembers them.

He tries to look contrite under her gaze but it's a struggle.

It's In Heat that gets him and he breaks into laughter.

" --I'm sorry... " He manages before another fit takes him.

Beckett just glares.

"It's not funny."

And glares and glares.

It is funny. It so totally is, but he tries to calm himself.

"I'm sorry, it's just... damn. He can't be serious, are you sure he's not like, messin' you with or somethin'?"

"Oh, he's dead serious," Beckett answers, putting way more emphasis on one word than all the rest.

Because if Castle thinks he's putting that name in print, he is very mistaken.

"An' you're sure he's still writin' murder mysteries?"

'And not porn' might be implied.

"His last character was Derek Storm," Beckett answers. "So there were titles like Gathering Storm, Storm's Break, Storm Fall."

Never mind the fact that some of those are among her favorites.
