"Think I might split a seam or three."

A beat and a grin.

"But I'd rather you did."

"I'd still rather the coat."

He eyes the tassels on one shoulder.

"You can have this frilly thing if you really want it."

"Really."

A beat.

"It'll make a right smart dress for you."

"Oh, you've never been to Russia. Long coats are useful," she says, serenely.

"Spent more'n a few nights in the desert," he offers, standing and shrugging out of the coat.

"But I'm guessin' it gets a little colder in Russia."

"A little. More than twenty degrees below freezing."

"Pretty damn cold."

He drapes the coat around Esfir's slender shoulders.

And grins.

"Suits you, Lieutenant."
