{OOM: Hero, criminal: who says you can't be both?}

So, a speedster enters a bar-

Pardon, the speedster is already seated at a table. And he opens his ever-present backpack and about sixteen handguns and ten bullets of various makes come clattering out.

Oh hey, says Bart's face, I don't remember there being that many.

(His heroing technique, possibly, could use just a little work.)

Maybe you could advise him on what to do with them?

The zipping around seemed vaguely familiar. And then Nathan heard the tell-tale clatter of metal, and carbine stocks.

He frowned, and eyes narrowed at the kid, "You just raid a gun show or something, kid?"

"Not any of your business."

Confrontational tone, vaguely threatening body language, check. Meet Bart the porcupine streetkid.

"I just made it my business, what's with the pieces?" He immediately went to grab one, and expertly checked to see if it was loaded.

HEY.

THESE ARE HIS GUNS, IN THE SENSE THAT HE IS MAKING SURE THEY ARE NOT USED FOR ANYTHING.

(It's not; Bart didn't want to shoot a hole through his backpack.)

Prepare to have said gun taken away from you AT SUPERSPEED, Nathan. "Look, I told you it's none of your business. I'm not going to do anything with these."

That last part is possibly something of an 'oh hey, this doesn't really look that great' afterthought.

Nathan stared down at his hands as the gun was suddenly not there. What the hell's with this kid? .....Crap, is he one of them too?

"Right, so where did you get them from?"

"Places."

Avoidance is a go.

"Right." He's annoying, kind of like Peter sometimes, which hurt a little since he still didn't know where he was at the moment. But if Peter got into this situation, he'd do the same thing he'd always do for his brother. Cover it up.

So Nathan found himself adding, as he pointed to the guns, "Even if you're not doing anything with them, you can't keep them like that. Police would have you in five seconds."

"Doubt that, dude."

"All they need is half of a fingerprint and some DNA evidence, and they'll have a warrant for you in every state." He had his hands on his hips, as he eyed some of the handguns.

"Especially since one of them looks like it's police issue. You think they won't want to catch you on that alone?"

Clark is going to try a totally different tactic tonight. Patience.

(It'll be hard, but he'll do his best. Honest.)

"Uh, Bart?" See, all casual inquiry and no blame! "You need any help there?"

Beat.

"Want one?"

Seriously. He's not sure what to do with these things now that he has them.

Eyebrow raise.

"No, thanks." And then he'll hazard The Question: "Where did you get them from?"

Shrug.

"Uh, London. Oklahoma. Madrid. LA."

He can't really be expected to remember all of them, right?

Okay, that didn't quite work out as expected. Which he should have expected with Bart.

"All right, who did you get them from?"

"I didn't exactly stop for names, Stretch."

Clark sighs. Patience isn't patience until it's tested, right?

"I don't suppose asking about the circumstances in which you obtained them is going to get me any further, is it?" He'll sit himself down at Bart's table, though. Without asking.

The gun and bullets are eyed with a soldier's expertise when Jenny approaches Bart's table. She picks up the first one, turns it over in her hand, and in hand-wavey-mun-knows-nada-on-guns fashion, begins to unload each and every one. Well, those that she finds still possessing bullets.

It isn't saving per say, but it'll still protect him from harm?

All that soldier's seriousness disappears in a flash when he calls her that. In it's place comes a schoolgirl grin, complete with flushed cheeks. It's a look that is all in all very out of place given the way she continues to unload the last few guns.

"Hey, Speedy! Busy day?"

"I've been busy too," Jenny replies, sitting in a chair next to him after finishing with the last gun. She eyes the pile of bullets now scattered on the table before picking one up to play with.

"Lots of research and nothing nearly as fun as what you must've been up to." That blush has returned and, if Bart pays close enough attention, he might find Jenny shifting uncomfortably. "Um. What do you think of picnics? And cooking? And world visiting? And dates and me rescuing you during them? Oh! And sex! Recreational sex - which I really still don't get - but still! There's apparently lots of different options for that and, um, well."

Cue more blushing. "Well?"

"...Uh, I'm not really a good cook."

Beat.

"I'm cool with dates-" rescuing him during them? "-and I'm not exactly a picnics person, but if you want I could give it a try-"

COUGH. COUGHCOUGH.

"What've you been reading?" (Was that seriously in Dating for Dummies?)

"The book from last night," she answers awkwardly, eyes glancing down at the bullet in her hand. "And, um, talking to people here."

Jenny shrugs before she glances back up at him, blue eyes earnest and a small smile on her face. "I was trying to learn more about human relationships for you."

"Look. You, uh, you don't have to do that."

And that would be his arm sneaking around her waist to pull her closer. "I don't think we qualify for normal relationship anyway. Do you want to do any of that stuff?"
