"C'mon, c'mon, don't be a closet again--"

The door cre-e-eaks open, and a pigtailed head pokes through.

"Yessss!" The girl pumps a fist in triumph. "Finally!"

It took a week of trying the door, but Sari Sumdac has managed to make it back to Milliways. Too bad none of her Autobot friends were around to witness it.

Would she settle for Autobots she doesn't know yet? Ironhide would lift an eyebrow if he had one; instead, he glances the girl's way. "Do I wanna know?" he rumbles.

"I finally made it back!" cries Sari as she does a little victory dance. "Nobody believed me when I told 'em, but it's real, and I--"

She stops when she realizes who she's talking to.

"Oh. Are you another Autobot?"

"Last I checked, yup," says the big black mech. "Name's Ironhide. So you met one of the others, huh? Bumblebee, Optimus, or Rad?"

"Bumblebee. Only I also another Bumblebee, but he doesn't really believe me about Milliways yet." A beat. "Hi, I'm Sari."

"What for?"

Bee reported to Optimus on the newly met human. To Ironhide, not so much.

She rolls her eyes. "No, my name is 'Sari,'" she says in the tones of someone who has to explain this all the time. "S-A-R-I."

"Gotcha," says Ironhide. "Didn't realize."

This isn't a mech much prone to apologies, or he might do so himself.

"So. Been trying to get here a while, huh? Sounded like you were having trouble there."

Sari nods vigorously. "For a whole week."

That's a long damn time, when you're seven.

Ironhide lets out a brief, rasping noise that's the equivalent of a suppressed laugh. "Next time," he says, "take a napkin or something from the Bar with you. The humans tell me it makes the job a lot easier, getting back and forth."

"It does? Nobody told me that..."

"Must've slipped Bumblebee's processor," says Ironhide. "He gets excited about every little thing around here. Doesn't always remember to fill people in on the details, unless it's Optimus."

"Oh, you guys have an Optimus too?"

Ironhide nods. "He's an old, old friend of mine," he says. "Just about the oldest one of us on Earth, other than me. He comes here sometimes, but he's been too busy lately to do it much. You got one wherever it is you come from?"

"I finally made it back here! Everybody said it wasn't real, but it is!"

"The Autobots! They thought I was making it up, and I couldn't get back here for a week, but now I'm back and I'm gonna show 'em!"

He'll be on the same page as Sari is, once he's finished with the chapter he's reading.

"Yeah, but you're not one of my world's Autobots." A beat. "Right?"

"That depends. The Autobots where I'm from crashed on Earth, into a volcano located in what would one day become the west coast of the United States four million years ago, and remained in stasis lock until an earthquake revived them in 1984."

Pause. Happiest day of his life was in finding out that the lost Optimus Prime was alive and well. Just four million years behind on the times.

"Yours?"

"They crashlanded in Lake Erie fifty years ago, and then woke up a couple weeks ago. Oh, and it's 2109."

"Oh, you're way ahead of me then." Pause. Maybe she's from the future? "It's December 2006 to me. About a week before Christmas, to be exact."

His optical visor blinks a couple of times. As in, the light flickers a bit.

"'Other guys'? You mean you met the other Autobots?"
